Pile of shit

Get a lithium in it . Had one fitted to my Panigale for the last 6 years at it never fails to start the big lump with out any trickle charging

Out of curiosity - do you use it in icy conditions?

I started it in the winter . I reckon the temp was about 1 degree . It struggled initially but then seems to spring into life on the second attempt

That’s because discharging (and charging) the battery warms it up. Bigger the current, more the heating effect. Lithium batteries are happy between a few degrees above zero and a bit less than 50C

If it was cold, a few seconds at starting current would do it.
