Pillion accommodation - GSA

Having ridden an 1150GS for two years, went out on a test ride of a GSA (courtesy of SLM).

Apart from the obvious differences (height, flyscreen, gearing) two things were a little surprising - one was that it seemed to rev very happily (with 700 miles on) cf my GS - just like the engine was more run in than mine. May have been the gearing but surprising all the same.

The main one though was the pillions complaint about lack of leg room. The GSA had the rack mounts on for the alloy panniers and the pegs (obviously smaller) looked fractionally higher. The single seat also looks and feels lower, for the pillion.

Has anyone else found this a problem? Any cures...ie a twin seat like the standard GS?

(Just planning how to hang in there for the next 10 years riding 1150GSs )

Most of my riding is two up. Had an 1150GS for three years. Test rode an Adventure and a 1200GS. Took her who must be obeyed for second test ride and was told to get the 1200!

took my reasonable sized mate to cadwell park and back for the superbikes last year as his R1 was broke, with no problems at all, I've got plaggy panniers and normal footrests on mine tho.....

Tailpack is a Touratech 1150GS one (they also do a specific GS Adv one, for the standard single seat bike)

Basically all that I've done is take the whole GSA rack and seat system off (put it in the loft ) and bolt a GS1100/1150 dual seat system on (they're exactly the same mountings)

Both GSA and 1100/1150 GS subframes are the same (the black bit where the pillion footrest hangers are attached), so the whole lot is completely interchangeable

The rack hardware is about £180-£200 new (cheaper s/hand) for the silver rack,toolbox and lid,grabrail,seat lock etc

Then all you need is 2 seats............either stock ones or a Corbin/Sargent etc

Job done

So, if say, I have a standard GS fitted with Jesse panniers...then got a GSA..as well...I could swap the back ends over...seat, panniers and all. I think I can feel a cunning plan forming.

Not sure quite why I'd want the standard one to have the GSA seat but it does provide some options.
