Pillion + ally panniers ?

A question for all you aluminium pannier lovers.
Are they compatible with a pillion passenger? Pictures I've seen make it look that there's not much room left for a pillion's legs/feet.

I currently use system panniers, but I'm planning a little jaunt up to Shetland in the summer, 2 up, and might need added carrying capacity.

No issues with pillion pegs or clearance.

I found Hepco and Becker Alu Standard panniers pushed the pillion's feet too far forward on the pegs so that only the heels were in contact. The high mounted box shape also pressed uncomfortably on the pillion's legs.

I replaced them with Vern Worldbeaters which are superb.

Not much of a problem when they have climbed on. But they hurt your legs like buggery when you catch them on the corners."or so i've been told.

Tell Mrs TC that she is not alone. My wife finds the same. So I'm removing the inside one's while we tour Spain in the next few weeks.

Mrs 6760 said the same thing until I pointed out that they were a more important part of the bike than she was.

Those of you with troublesome tie down loops, what sort of panniers are they?
My pillion is lithe and limber, so climbing onto the bike shouldn't be too much of a problem. She only occasionally gets stuck with the current setup ;-)
