Hi, does anyone have any experience of either the Touratech or Wunderlich pillion tail bags? I'm looking for something to use for day rides, when the space and bulk of panniers or a tank bag isn't necessary. I just need it to hold small, light items such as camera, water bottle, newspapers, sandwiches etc etc. I also want it to attach / detach from the bike quickly, and to be able to carry it easily as a back pack. Both of the above offerings seem to fit the bill - but one can only tell so much from the catalogues.....so, any feedback regarding comparative quality, water resistance, user friendliness etc would be much appreciated.
Thanks, Tony

Ive been thinking about this as theres no room for anything under the seat, where i would keep lock, camera etc on a jap bike!

I'm coming to the conclusion a little waterproof daysac might be a better option, as theres so much scope for strapping one on the carrier or pilllion seat, and they would be more comfy to carry around off the bike. And probbaly loads cheaper.

Just an aside but I have one of these

and they hold absolutely loads, docs, small bottle of water, big camera, toothbrush and spare pants etc etc. I bet it will attach nicely to the carrier, although fine to use as a bumbag while riding as they have excellent stabilising straps.

I had an old Oxford Tank bag, and having seen what someone else (Mouse, possibly) had done with theirs i set about following the same principle.

Remove Pillion seat, slot tankbag into gap, strap the headstock strap to the rear rail, i threaded a bungee through the loops and over the rear pocket of the tankbag, hook them to the bungee point and voila.

Good capacity, good for 100+ mph and cost almost nothing

I have got the Touratech Tail Bag 01-055-1224-0.

I have not used it yet on the road but I have fitted it to the bike without the rear seat and it fits very well & looks good. It seems well made, has a soft padded plastic coated base & is the perfect size for a day ride, but can expand for an overnight trip. It comes with straps so it can be used as a back pack, it also has a carry handle.

Thanks for the feedback and ideas guys. I actually have an old oxford humpback tankbag from a previous bike, and I hadn't given a thought to adapting that as a tailpack! It seems to be quite a good fit on the pillion area too. I haven't got around to trying to attach it securely yet, but I can't see that will present too much of a problem. So, I'll see how I get on using that - and if that doesn't do the trick for me then I'll probably end up going the Touratech route. Cheers, Tony

I've got the TT adventure tailpack designed for the adv rack. Its been a brilliant bit of kit and I especially like the expansion feature for when you need to take more 'stuff' Its been out in all weathers and never leaked at all 055-1209 in the cat for the adv and they do a similar one for the 1200..... highly recommended:thumb

Just seen a nice tankbag from HG for £25 with integegrated rain cover. Im going to see if it has straps that will allow it to go on the tail as its a nice shape so think will suit, and distinctly cheaper than the TT.

Fitting for a U-lock

As was pointed out to me in the Club journal there IS a fitting behind the tool roll under the saddle where the U part of the lock can be stowed. Trouble is my (expensive) lock is not quite wide enough to fit; Brian
