It's a camel !!! :D :D

Still keen and willing to support however it turns out.

Pumpy, did you try the A272? It's a treat, and there's plenty of others even better if you've ever got the time to explore.

Keep up the good work

Jim :thumb

Hi Jim,

Thanks for this. I haven't tried the A272 this time - once I realised the discrepancies between the route in my head and the one in front of me I had to make a decision, which was then to follow the GPS. I found it just a little bit too cold to ride both proposals on the 5th March... :D

But I still remember the A272 from the time when I used to come over to this beautiful island as a tourist.

Btw, could you enlighten a foreigner what
It's a camel !!! :D :D
means in this context?

Cheers!

Btw, could you enlighten a foreigner what

It's a camel ?

An old saying in UK

Question - what is the definition of a camel?

Answer - a racehorse designed by a committee. :D

Simply put, if you try to meet everybodies wishes, what you end up with is a long way from what you originally wanted. That said I already made another suggestion to Duchess !! :o

General disclaimer for anyone who may be reading this....
I'm fully behind this endeavour, anyone who chooses to interpret my threads in any way other than good humoured banter is wrong and can - in the words of Steptoe - go do one!

route in to folkstone

Hi all
I would like to make an up date to the route I supplied a few weeks ago into Folkstone.
As before leave Dover via the A2 london bound for about 2 miles then take the A256 slip to a small round about go straight across up small hill to T junction , turn left,(signed Town centre) head down hill to r/bt go straight across signed( town centre) follow this road to small r/bt turn left under large arch way viaduck and turn left into one way, after short distance it turns right, move into right lane and take right fork, road painted all other routes, follow up steep hill as it bends to the right, to a small r/bt signed hythe A259 and turn left, then through pedestian lights and pass bus terminal on left (at the moment this is under repair), through next set of lights keeping in left lane signed Hastings A259 follow to round about and turn left then to next r/bt (200 yrds) and turn right this will take you out of folkstone and along to the next town, Dymchurch and then Romney along the A259 coastal road .

NB: When leaving Dover be alert, that continental drivers sit on the left of there vehicles and not there right as uk drivers and wont see you as clear as a uk driver will, and to point out they will move in to the outside lane as soon as they leave the port be safe and enjoy your ride. :thumb

Still watching and waiting ? or can we have some interest now ?

Times moving on and things have progressed forward since the last posting ... we could do with knowing if we have a full team on board with us.

Can you please make contact with Pumpy and the other riders please and discuss what's required and raise sponsors / pledges for your region.

Any problems or queries please contact me, I'll try to help where I can.

Many thanks

Better late than never...

Finally managed to make contact with Steptoe:

Happy to help.

I know its a little late but, if you need any assistance with this region, then please shout. Either escort riding related before or on the day or admin / organisation.

I'm based in Maidstone and at the moment I am free most Mondays and Tuesdays during the week as well as the odd weekend. (Except last two weeks of Aug).

Cheers
Steve

Hi Zippy,

Welcome on board and thank you very much for your kind offer! :thumb

I would be more than happy if you could help with Public Relations and fundraising. Being a foreigner I'm lacking the socio-cultural network over here - you know, stuff like: 'I know a friend of a friend who is a journalist' or 'my sister's partner is working for this big company and they are always willing to sponsor a good cause', etc.

If you want, you can also join me on the actual ride on Tuesday, 05/09/06 - allocated time is 15:02 (Thurrock Services, Dartford Bridge) to 21:06 (Rownhams Services, M27).

When I did the recce run in March the leg took me 5 hours to complete (including a stop for fuel, a sandwich and a wee) but the roads might be busier at this time of the year and day, so it's good to have an hour more just in case.

I'm going to the Photo Shoot tonight and hope to get the latest updates there.

I'll keep you in the loop!

Cheers,

Ela

Ela,

I have seen pics from the Griffin and these shall be useful to all as well as the pr team @ Breast Cancer Care.

As you know I am working behind the scenes and have posted to you BCC letters for your ride. I assume you have them ?.

The BCC PR team shall issue their own press release (and accompany it with the relevant GS girls pr page from UKGSer) to raise awareness of the challenge ride to regional media and news gathering services in their areas. So I hope this helps. Last time I saw/spoke to 'Burf' he was getting sponsor support from his company. Then again in the collective pot, the Griffin pics and article in First Magazine with ukGSer links should help the team as well. I am optimistic that we will achieve the goal in the end.

Still here...

Ella, good to hear things are progressing. I got a welcome call from Steve today, I'd lost track of how close this is getting!
I've been out of the country most of the last 2 months and am scheduled to be away for the next 6 weeks - in Russia and Poland, but I think I can find a way to be free for the week of the 5th, if only for the ride. I'll happily take on role of lead rider - and I've got plenty of contacts in the office who can drum up the support needed for sponsorship while I'm away.
I'll try to ride the route when I'm back on the 19/20, assume it's the one posted earlier in this thread?

Duchess - Steve said you've pm'd me - but I can't get to it, either expired or I've been locked out for some reason. :nenau do you want try again or post on here - I should have good access for the next couple of days at least.

Burf... nice to see you again :)

I do have someone who's pm'd me tonight who could help alongside you Burf if thats ok.

Please go ahead and plan as before and try to ride the route with Ela if at all possible.

Let me just send a message to him to post here with you and make contact direct.

Good to see you :thumb

Karen. :)

That'll be me then! :D

Could we have a quick round-up / repost of who's helping / still helping and who's doing what? Just to make sure I don't plant my size 10s anywhere they might hurt!! :thumb

Steve

Karen - happy for all, any help.

Can I suggest all who are still able to support in any way post now, then we can get a definitive handle on who can do what.

I recognise this may sound a bit of a liberty when I've been off the scene for so long but I'm aware there will be others like me who's commitments are likely to change.

I also appreciate there will be those who have been grafting behind the scenes :bow :clap and I am in no way trying to steal their thunder. Let us know what's been achieved so far and what's left to do.

Cheers Burf

Hi Steve, looks like we posted at same time, great minds and all that, I'm just off Willington St, by Mote Park.

I'll be be back in UK late on 18th, then in Manchester on 20th and back in Moscow on 21st for 2 weeks. So plan is to ride route on 19th - happy if you want to join me, also OK if another time works better for you and you want to go solo - or with Ela if you can arrange it.

Ela - open invite for the 19th, happy either way.

Cheers Burf

Blimey Ela, wish I had as much interest ... I'm jealous now ;)
