The problem with the Arai Tour X helmets is that if you want a dark visor, its a bit of a faff to unscrew the peak, remove the visor, replace it and screw it all back together, when the sun comes out, or goes down. Certainly not something you want to do whilst out and about.:rob

I had a dark pinlock insert in my Tour X3, but when the sun went down, I'd either have to ride with the visor up, or dismantle the peak to remove the insert.

I'd read about the new Pinlock insert, and bought one with the offer of returning it if it didn't do what it said on the tin. This weekend I got to test it out in sunshine, rain, and in the dark, and although it doesn't go quite as dark as a proper tinted visor, it gets close enough. You don't realise the visor is as dark as it is, until you lift the visor. I'd read a few reviews, and was quite cautious, but needn't have been.

So, if anyone has a an Arai Tour X helmet, and has the same "issue", then I can recommend this insert, as it's going to save a lot of fiddling around, for me, in future.:thumb:beerjug:

Last time I was in the US, I used a black Pinlock inside my Shoei Hornet's light smoke visor and when the sun went down I pulled on a pair of goggles. I've also done it the other way with a clear visor on my Tour-X and a pair of goggles with silver iridium lenses. However, that whole issue is one of the things that led me to buy a Shoei GT-Air at the tail end of last year.

I like the drop down visor system, as I have it in my Schuberth, but Arai has said that they'll never do drop down visors, as it compromises the rigidity of the helmet. this insert is a good alternative.:thumb
