Ive had enough of my visor misting up. Twas a little foggy on the way home from work tonight so I had to ride with the visor open - freezing my face.

So, my question(s).

Are the pinlock visor worth buying? My visor needs replacing anyhow as theres a few scratches on it.

Anyone seen em cheaper than £70 from thevisorshop.com?

System 4 btw.

I've yet to do a review of my latest helmet; Bell M5X pure carbon.

Screen is 3.3mm thick & really doesn't fog up unless your a heavy breather but does have issues..i will do it soonish. My Aria Viper-GT fogs up within seconds.

3.3mm Lexan professional racing, flat, injection moulded visor. With no fog and no drop antifog treated surface internally and rain water repellent treated surface externally. This visor is also antiscratch and UV filtering.

I have no opinion on the questions you asked soz.

Cheers bud, I'm really into sharing good information. I hope someone gives you a personal opinion rather than risk forking out money that could go elsewhere.

i'd say the pinlock it a good bit of kit but theres always a but its not graet in the dark with oncoming lights get a bit of double vision but still better than no vision from a misty visor and i'd look about on prices as that does seem a bit steep i got mine last year from parkinsons in colchester and seem to remember it was around 55 quid for a shoei multi tec visor

I just bought a pinlock double-glazed visor to replace the original non-DG one on my system 5, at nearly £70 its bloody dear but seems good so far. I had little choice as I had broken the original visor.

I then had to replace the cheek piece at £28 as the retaining lug snapped inside the lid. :blast

Maybe I should've just bought a System 6.:nenau

Got a system 5 too, but I prefer the sys 4. Its more comfy - though getting a tad scruffy.

I use the Schuberth S1 Pro, it came with Pinlock and I hated it, no matter what I did I could not get it to 100% seal at the sides, rainy weather/heat conditions it would get a little moisture in and condense out at eye level....just what you don't want.
Bought a plain visor for it and fitted a sticky anti fog insert...brill:thumb2
So they are not for me but no doubt someone will say otherwise...

Have pinlock fitted to my tourX3, no fogging but not 100% sure about visibility
or should I say clarity, going to try slightly tinted plain visor.

I've used a clear visor on my pinlock system in all weathers and wold recommend it 100% - it is the only system I've used that is really fog free. The only down side is cost but compared to all the miserable days in the rain trying to clear a misty wet visor with the back of a sodden glove it's got to be worth it.

Me, me, me, me, me.

Otherwise

The pinlock on my S1 is ace. Expensive, but ace.

Pinlock is excellent.

I bought one to fit to my Arai lid and my recently purchased Shoei came with one.

I've used it for several months. This morning was the first proper mist and the visor was fine. Worked very well in the torrential rain we had before Xmas too, although it takes a while to recalibrate your sight to filter out the extra reflections.

An Arai visor with pinlock would cost £56 from the excellent racevisors.co.uk so £70 for a BMW one seems about right, when you add on their "we'll take the piss because we can" margin.

Thanks for your comments folks.

Pinlock it is.

I spose £70 aint that much to pay to be able to see on the bike :D

Hmmm I've never had much luck with pinlocks but suspect I'm a heavy moist breather with a snout that is too close to the visor (deep head, not that big a snout, as my chin gets close/touches the chin bar on most full face lids) , so I tend to run a fog city face guard/mask as well as it helps direct the breath away from the visor.. might not be much use if you have a helmet curtain

My system 5 is almost unusable in winter on a standard visor. The BMW pinlock visor is a vast improvement. The single layer areas at the side can be completely obscured with condensation when the double glazed area is completely clear. Still not perfect if the temperatures are sub zero though.

Work out the difference in price, divide it by the anticipated number of days use and ask yourself "Is it worth it?".

e.g. plain visor £50, Pinlock £70 difference £20. Expected life one year or maybe 180 days riding = 11.11p per day. Eeeerrrrr, should I or shouldn't I?:)

As I get over a year from mine and ride almost daily unless we have snow and -10C it's a no brainer.
