pioneer run Sunday 22nd .

I will be at the start to wave off a mate on his sunbeam…..
Then down to leonardslea for a cupped…..then bacon butties at a mates house.

It’s a shame it now finishes at shoreham airport instead of Madeira drive Brighton……
Brighton council made a mistake kicking it out, as lots used to go down to the finish and spend money in Brighton…..

I will be on my R80GS Basic….. say hello if you are there….

if i can get up early enough , i'll be on a dirty v7 Stone , Chris might be on a 3HW Triumph or his Basis ( with a 6 pot ft brake ) .

A fantastic annual event and had the pleasure of riding my 1908 Frera in the event on six occasions receiving finishers medals for the period 1989 to 1994

The run into Brighton trying to avoid stopping at any traffic lights and finally crossing the finish line and parking up on Madera Drive was very satisfying end to the run.

I remember one year starting at Tattenham Corner, Epson with mid 70’s rider number and was the first bike across the finish line in Brighton.

Photos om my six finishers’ medals attached.

I think the decision to finish at the airport was made on the grounds of safety. Old bikes with minimal brakes didn’t mix well with modern traffic in town.

True, but Brighton council could ( and should) have segregated one lane for pioneer bikes, therefore keeping them safe, and allowing a safe run thru to Madeira drive….. but that would have taken some planning, and thought.

Also, I believe Brighton council are green, and don’t want nasty smelly petrol driven vehicles entering their green haven…..

Great achievement….and I’m sure I would have seen you on at least one of your runs.
Well done

Brighton has lost the Pioneer run, now diverted to Shoreham, it's lost the Brighton Speed Trials aka Brighton Sprint too, along with pretty most of it's soul by all accounts.

The process of elimination suggests the November Veteran Car run will likely be the next casualty, or is there some form of hierarchy at play in the automotive world that overrides B&HCC wokery.

The Ace Cafe Reunion doesn't seem to have a problem every September.

Brighton has been destroyed by road works at the moment. The centre is very slow going and those old bikes would find it hard going with traffic jams all the way to Madeira Drive . Shoreham air pot isn’t bad . There’s a great cafe the hummingbird that does a good cup of tea and lunch . Shoreham itself is worth a look . Woolf on East does a good coffee and pastry and there are a few little cafes to visit .

I’m around Shoreham/Bognor this weekend for a few days just bimbling around in me camper (Grey n white 2 tone Crafter) with ‘er indoors.

I’ll see if I can stumble across the airport by accident, she isn’t as keen on motorcycles as she used to be 😅
