Pionner run to brighton, sunday 9th march

My Dad will be running in it - not sure yet if I'll be making it over though.

Why doesn't he use a bike like everyone else ?.

Cos its quicker to run...erm... walk and there's more chance of arriving :D

Sadly I'll have to miss getting cut up by a plus four and deer stalker wearing hooligan on the wrong side of a solid white line as this year I'll be in Scotlandshire making snowmen by the sound of it. Do they get snow in Edinburgh :nenau

Sadly I'll have to miss getting cut up by a plus four and deer stalker wearing hooligan riding a 1907 henderson on the wrong side of a solid white line while overtaking a bus

Being present on the occasion mentioned, that's how it looked in my mirrors :augie

What is the format for this? Is it worth going to Epsom - can you wander around the bikes before the off?

You can but most of the bikes are away from the Downs at Sparrow's fart, previously we've met up at the tea hut at a civilised hour, had a cuppa and a pasty then mosied on down to Brighton along the route then park up on the front and walk up to the oil slick that is the finish line and browse the bikes before the fish n chip bell goes.

Were you close enough to catch what he said to me as well :D

I can well imagine... ;)

If you're going to ride anywhere near these guys, it's worth remembering that they have ZERO braking capability, very little acceleration and for the majority of them, if they have to stop - it's a running bump start, and that's not easy for those over the age of 60 (ie most of them!), so they're highly disinclined to stop, for ANYTHING! (not that they would be able to anyway!)

If you ever get a chance, it's worth having a go on a flat tanker - it's a complete eye opener!

The Short Way Down

We are planning to meet at the shop on Sunday and leave at 9.30, following most of the route to Brighton. Or we might avoid the route entirely and go straight(ish) to the seafront.
Either way, all are welcome to join us. Remember, full tank, empty bladder!

See You Sunday

Oh yes, where are we???

Any ideas on what time they start to arrive in Brighton please?

I know they set off from Epsom from 0800 so I'm guessing they'll start to arrive in Brighton around 0930?

The slowest/oldest bikes set off at 0800. The last finally get going around 0930 -

Start arriving in brighton about 1030, on a good day - the last get there about 3pm . You'll see most of the bikes scattered along the highways and byways on the way to brighton. The quickest breakdown i've ever seen was 100 yards from the start :D
