It's coming up tyre time on my 1250 GSA. Just trying to minimise tyre howl whilst maintaining grip

I noticed earlier that Pirelli offer Angel GT 2's in the correct sizes.

I am not likely to ride off road so looking for input from those that have used them on a GS or GSA

I was considering fitting Pirelli Angel GTs in an effort to reduce tyre noise off the front wheel. I'm surprised that more riders haven't complained about the noise of the front tyre. Mine has Battlax A41 Adventure tyres fitted which are not supposed to be noisy.

I have them fitted on my K1300S and think that they are great tyres. They seem to maintain their profile right up to being worn out. The thing is that the correct fitment for the K1300S is a Pirelli Angel GT type A which has a stiffer side wall.

Not sure if a type A is required or even made in the correct sizes for the R1250GS.

I have just replaced the Michelin Pilot 4s on my bike with the Pirelli Angel GT 2s. They are much quieter but as I have done less than a thousand miles with them I cannot comment on their longevity. They certainly seem to perform as well as the Michelins.

I could not wait to be rid of the Angels on my KTM

They feel hard and edgy somehow and not confidence inspiring

I know that currently they can be bought quite cheap and my Tyre man did try to flog me a pair but i still went to my favourites the Metzler RoadTec 01

I know it is just my opinion but these are the best tyre on the market currently and by a long way

I don't know if your heart is set on the GTs but you may benefit from this months Bike mag which reviews various sets of tyres for adventure bikes. There are also plenty of tyre threads on the forum (as long as you've got a bit of spare time). :thumb

And the Pirelli Scorpion Trail 2 came top. It's a great tyre.

My interest in the Angel GT2 was if it improved on that 90/10 split to 100% road.

I can't speak for the Angel GT 2 tires, but I installed Michelin Pilot Road 4 tires, which have a very similar tread pattern,
and they are fairly quite. The howl with the stock Anakee tires was unbearable.

The Angel GT never has been a dual sport tyre just a sports touring tyre .
A friend of mine runs them on his Pikes Peak and loves them.

In fairness yes it was but based on my dislike of them i wouldn't try the GT2 !

I know they are very well rated in tests but i cant see that the feel of the tyre will have changed much and as said for me they felt to harsh and lacked feel although without doubt they did the job and would certainly out perform my level of bravery. I had them to the edge with no drama but again that lack of feel always left me feeling that although they gripped i would never know the limit until too late

Tyre are a very personal thing

The best tyre out there for feel is the PST2.
Imagine a PR4 with a longer life and more consistent feel throughout its life and you're getting there.
Certainly better than the roadtec.

I recently got rid of my anakee 3's as I've never liked them. My tyre centre owner had recently been on a tyre testing event riding a GS on various tyres inc the Roadetc 01's and GT2's. His opinion was they were both very good but the Roadtecs edged it. The GT2's had more of a "sporty faster steering" feel while the 01's had a "more compliant and confidence inspiring feel" to them so I got the 01 's even though they were more expensive as over the life of the tyre based on my low annual milage it wasn't much per year.

A friend had these on a TDM and found that they fell in to bends rather than maintain the position that you had put the bike in. Back to Bridgestones for him.

I have these fitted to my R1200GS Adventure Rallye currently and have just done a weeks Alps tour on them.

In a nutshell they are good but I preferred the Michelin Road 5's I had on previously. Firstly if you get a puncture, whilst you can plug them to get you home, the dealer wont put a permanent mushroom plug repair in them as Pirelli wont warranty it so you have to buy a new tyre!

Grip and cornering is very good overall and they seem solid in the wet but I am not convinced about high-speed stability. above 90 they don't feel great and if you give the bars a little shake, it takes the bike a long time to settle back down again. I never felt this with Michelin's Road 5 or the previous Michelin PR4's.

When I replace these I will be going back on the Michelin Road 5's again. IMO they are the best 100% road tyre for the GS currently available. The previous PR4's were also very good but did wear strangely and the front felt a bit mushy due to too many sipes causing too much tread movement.

Also the Road 5's wore very evenly and I got 7500 mile out of the rear and the front was still good for another 3000!
