Our Pyranees trip is sorted for September but we were going to stay in Jaca on the final night but gives us a 230mi / 4hr stint back to Santander to get the return ferry so would be a v early start.

Are there any decent towns between Jaca and Santander that anyone can recommend?

Vitoria-Gasteiz is pretty nice
About half way for you & nestled between half a dozen national parks
plenty of hotels - Trivago/Booking.com are your friends :thumb2

Pamplona.................. hotel Zenit, a great location and perfectly placed for an easy ride to santander

Cheers both. Pamplona not too busy then?

the Zenit hotel is really up market at a reasonable cost . its a welcome stop for the other half ......... she feels pampered when we stay there. it also gives you the option of blatting it up the motorway or the more scenic route over the hills to santander depending on departure time

Only thing with Pamplona, is that it's still 2 hours 40 minutes to Santander on mainly motorway ( call it 3 hours if you're going via Bibao in the rush hour)

You can do Vitoria-Gasteiz in under two & a half hours on a much nicer route :thumb

I'm sold on Vitoria Gasteiz. Looks bang on - thanks sidestand. Now looking for somewhere in the French pyranees!

West I think - we'll be getting into Bilbao and I'd like to get us to the Col's day 1 really, work our way through East and loop back on the N260 on the way home.

Stayed at this place before

Very handy for the Col De Tourmalet ………and nicely out of the cesspit that is Lourdes
Glacial cirque at Gavernie is very close & worth an hour's side trip :thumb2
Very French - fading glory, but clean & reasonable with good bike parking & walking distance to town restaurants & bars

Might be a bit far over for you though

We got back from riding the N260 to Barcelona and back last week. We stayed near El Pont de Suert on the last night and rode from there to Santander to catch the ferry (but we did receive a text saying the ferry departure was delayed until 2:30am which gave us extra time). We even had time for a detour through the hills near Arribe on the N1300. My wife, riding pillion, didn't complain, once.

Out trip went:
Portstmouth to Santander
Hotel Zarauz, Zarautz
Camping Laspaules, Laspaules
Hotel Melia, Sitges for 3 nights, no riding just sunbathing on the nudie beach.
Camping Molí Serradell, Ripoll
Camping Baliera BUNGALOWS & APARTMENTS, El Pont de Suert (we stayed in a bungalow).
Santander to Plymouth
Wild Camping in the middle of Dartmoor (the ferry was delayed and docked at 10:30pm).

The N260 is an amazing route with a mixture of fast sweeping sections and steep ascents and descents with hairpin bends. The scenery is great. We only booked the first night hotel and the Sitges hotel. Otherwise we just stopped when we felt like it.
