Hi, can anyone tell me the regulations for a ride as far as Turkey in terms of the Bike's documents. Is a Carnet du Passage recommended/mandatory/pointless?
If anyone has been all the way to Saudi Arabia I would be grateful to make contact with you.
Many thanks
Peter

No problem. Green card insurance valid for all EU countries and usually Turkey west of Bosphorus. Turkish insurance available at border crossing for eastern Turkey. No carnet required until Syria, not required for Jordan. Again insurance can be bought at borders for both countries. Don't know beyond that.

Three months ago, I emailed the Syrian embassy in London and asked them whether a Carnet is required, they told me NO.
I have also travelled to Jordan from Saudi and was not asked for a Carnet.

In the Middle East, you can buy third party insurance at the border.

To put your bike through the MPVI test in Saudi, they may require the bike to have a KPH speedo.

But I wanted to bring it in only temporarily (if possible)

Thanks, Peter

My bike is 99.9% ready to be shipped by air, flying out Saturday night and just discovered a major glitch which may halt the proceedings for the bike.
The frame number on my Istamara (reg doc) is different to that on the bike frame.
WD instead of WB and one numbered digit missing. Should have double checked but, left all paperwork to middle men and took it for granted everything was OK.
Could be money wasted in the short term and may have to wait until next year to try again. So looking forward to it being back home and out of the sun.
Hopefully the shipper can pull a few strings and get it sorted during my 3 week vacation in UK and get it OK'd for exporting.
Lotta headaches as I work and live in a remote area and it is Ramadan.

Where is the bike being shipped to? I want to bring a bike into KSA but do I have to import it etc? Can't someone come here on a visit and bring a bike for say 6 or 12 months?

Air freighting from Dammam to Manchester airport via Emirates air. Shipper is Kanoo Cargo. Flying out Saturday night to UK with or without the bike. Cost todate SR7200.

Why don't you try and find out from the Saudi embassy what can and cannot be done. I do not know how long you can ride or drive here on a foreign plate. Last thing you want is to be stopped by every copper or road block for papers.

Good luck.
