Guys
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to buy one of the black plastic corner pieces from a BMW aluminium pannier? I dropped my 1200 GSA a little while back and the local panel beater thinks he can do a repair job but the plastic corner piece is beyond redemption!

Thanks for any advice in advance.

Barry.

Yes you can and it will come with dome head allen bolts so you don't have to worry about rivetting it back on:). I bought one corner piece 2 weeks ago but unfortunately I can't find the receipt to help you out with part number or price.

Thats the beauty of this forum, there is always someone who knows :)

Did you buy it from BMW direct?

I got mine from Motorworks.....Think it was around £9 and those rivets are a real pain in the ass to get off.....They needed a good hard reaming to get them loose(if you know what I mean)

I wouldn't mind but it was her 'box'..........!:blast

Ok.......Maybe I need to clarify things a bit.........Bought a damaged o/s ADV alloy pannier and cut it in half(keeping the good bit) and then used it as a topbox for her shiny new G650GS!

I had to 'ream' our all the rivets holding the bottom onto the box and then remove over half the height of the side aluminium section and bolt it all back together using nice new stainless domehead allen bolts. One of the lid corner sections was damaged and needed replaced aswell as three locks.

One nice new topbox for around £110 compared to around £480 for the Touratech 25 litre one:thumb

I liked it so much I got another box for myself and shortened the damaged top half for my GSA30 but that one was only £35. The shortened box looks a 'wee' bit different from the 'pack' and it's lower and a good bit wider than the standard ADV one.

Yes I did from Southport Superbikes courtesy of sadjim off this forum. It took two days from ordering to pickup. As already mentioned its better done as a two man job, one holding the rivet tail with molegrips whilst the other one drills off the head. Try to make sure that you only drill the head off and don't go through the box or you'll likely elongate the holes. Or if you have a dremel or similar you could grind the heads off. Again use one to steady the box whilst the other one grinds the rivets, you wouldn't want to go skittering across your shiny pannier cos you didn't have control of the box/ grinder/drill:blast. Easy for me, I spent a lifetime doing it on aircraft:thumb

+1:thumb

I reamed mine off from the inside then punched the rivet outwards and no scratches whatsoever.....Apart from the ones I can see inside the box but they're hidden by the washer and nylock nut!

Barry,

I seem to have some corners recovered from a damaged pannier.
PM me if you're still looking for one.
