Not just a toolbox cover!!!!!!

The one I'm playing with at the moment (in between banging my head against the wall dealing with total morons, and trying to recover stainless scrap that I was charged £800 for:shoot: ) will be a lot more than a toolbox cover. I want to use the plate as a base for a lot of other things as well, ie a fuel/water carrier, a secure box, a topbox the full length of the rack and quite a few other things that are going around in my little disturbed mind as well (oh go on then, what do you want, and the rumble seat is on the list already!).
At the moment, I'm trying to get a batch of panniers done (20 sets and counting at the moment:cool: ) but as usual, I've ended up doing everything by hand again, so that must come first. I might have a lull next week when I can get on with the cover. I'll keep you all informed/in the dark/in suspense on progress.
Cheers
PW, I don't know what sort of nutsert toll I'm talking about:D

Gepäckbrücke

The one shown on the website posted by Tim called a 'Gepäckbrücke' is the Wunderlich item. Mine came from Wunderlich, has the Wunderlich name stamped on the bottom and is identical to the one in the photo. It is certainly a lot nicer than the one seen on the Boxer-Design website.
I ordered mine through my local dealer Woolastons, they gave me quite a decent discount against the retail price (still quite expesnive though) and of course there was no additional charge for p&p. Delivery was within a couple of days.
As Tim said, the finish is excelent and you can see how the plate fits into position by his link to the website. It locks into position using the same slot & catch arrangment as the seat and as you can see, has slots for straps (they line-up with the straps on my pillion-seat bag perfectly) and decent sized hooks for bungees. ;)

Having just returned from Germany back to sunny Australia about 6 hours ago, I can tell you that Gepäckbrücke is nothing more than two words which make a new one with a perfect meaning.

"Gepäck" is your baggage, "Brücke" is a bridge. So it translates to a "Baggage Bridge", which if you think of where it is and what it does, that's a dead logical description of the item.

Mick.

Ps:- I'm not German, (just maried to one) and maybe the translation isn't perfect, but I think you will all understand.

tool cover plate

I cut a piece of 5mm thick aluminium checker plate to the desired shape to cover the tool tray, fixed a couple of stainless hinges to the front of the cast frame ( behind the back of the seat ) so that the checker plate hinges forward, screwed to the checker plate a slice of angle iron 30x30x20 wide with a slot to take the existing lock's tongue and glued some rubber sheet around the underneath edges so the plate doesn't rattle.
The plate sits level with the top of my Zega panniers so a wide load can be supported and it looks snappy. Unfortunately I'm stuck in 35mm land photographically so am unable to demonstrate with an image ......

A piece of wet cardboard would be an improvement over the original piece of crap.

Dunno if this is a bit late but Touratech have sent me a copy of the 04/05 catalogue. they have a lockable aluminium plate available there now. I e-mailed them for a price ( they are not on the website yet) I was quoted £38.50. They state that you can use it as a load carrying option ( ie put a fuel can on it). hope this helps.

Plate (not dinner plate)

How about an offcut of aluminium plate from your local metal merchant cut to size with a couple of holes drilled in the right place.
£ .00 max:)
:) :) :) :)
