Thanks to all you guys for your info and tips. I've successfully carried out the job and eliminated the play. Plenty of heat with a blow torch and a big spanner,boy was it tight! 
And I didn't strip the thread thank goodness 
Cleaned the threads then Loctite 2701 and torqued allen bolt at 7Nm and locknut at 160Nm. That shouldn't come undone
