riding home from the"Hopper" the other night showed how pants my 1100gs headlamp is......without going to auxillary lightening can anyone recomend a replacement bulb to shed a little more light on my journey????
Try a halfords 80/100w, mine was ok on those for ages. The thing is, a brighter bulb only makes what you can see already, a bit brighter. Ask Paul G what he's got, and then don't buy one of those, the tosser's afraid of the dark

Sadly brighter bulbs don't turn a crap headlight into a good headlight though I thought the 1100 was supposed to be the best of a bad lot.
Also them big bulbs tend to blow real quck. Real soon those £40 Halford spots seem a damned fine deal.

Fog or spot ? which is best?
Fog lights set to supplement dipped beam ( my preference )
or Spots to seek the road ahead into the far distance
(or until one has to resort to dipped beam due to on-coming traffic)
Also can anyone advise as to legal position ( lights only please!)
of wiring auxillery lights in addition of original lights or as daylight running lights.
Help re weaterproof switches would be appreciated

Just bought the Migsel Bracket, visited Halfords, & confused

rapidly loosing any vestige of sanity due to the long wish list of
additional kit, alterations, personalisation that the GS beast is capable of, credit limit knackered. ( great bike, hard task master )

Both if posiible, Hella Micro DE fogs, and FF50 driving for spot.
If you can only fit one type then FF50 driving and set just under dipped beam height.
Get a Motoswitch from Rob Farmer for the fogs and wire independantly so they can be on all the time for daylight use without your dipped beam on, wire the driving lights to the main beam so they only come on with the main beam.
Don't know the legal position ref auxiliary lights in daylight but when lights are required then the aux lights and dipped headlight should be on together the driving lights should only come on with main beam.
I have my aux lights on all the time, day & night, with & without the dipped beam.
The Motoswitch uses the indicator cancel switch to switch the lights on, nothing external so no water problems, driving lamps wired to main beam via relay so no switch required.

It has made a world of difference too night riding. I have more than ample light. The fogs are great in bad weather.
I often use the "Fogs" on during the day.. if filtering and not been flashed at yet. I had em fitted by williams in manchester, as i didnt want to play with the electrics.

Mike, auxilliary lights will be treated as any position lamp, ie they must be correctly aligned and not dazzle ( Reg 8, Road Vehicles (Lighting) Regs.) If any lamp is fitted it must be maintained (work), even if it is daylight. If any white lamp at the front is fitted and it is less than 2 feet (probably a metric measurement these days) from the centre of the lamp to the ground, it should be treated as a fog lamp and can (or should) only be used in conditions of reduced visibilty through rain, fog or falling snow.
Auxilliary main beam lamps must either be capable of dipping or go off when when dipped beam is used. Any forward facing aux lamps must be in matched pairs if used without the headlamp(s).
Most of this is from memory, I'm sure that someone with access to a copy of Wilkinsons Road Traffic Law will put any errors straight.

Xenon fogs
Hi All,
Revisiting old posts as I am due to put some fogs on (as are many others as the nights draw in.)
I have seen the Hella halogens, but what about the xenon ones! Coolio or what? Imagine four of them together attached to a Misgel bar....could be very nice...
What do you think? Workable?

Workable but...
Those little beauties are about 400-450 GBP! I now see why everyone has gone for the micro DE and FF50! I'll be doing the same.....

Anyone have experience of the auxiliary lights kit offered by Nippy Norman for about 90 quid?
