Please go easy its my first one .....

Nice one. We have a week off in October & I fancy taking the car* to Scotland. Was wondering where to go but as I'm travelling from Lincoln I shall be able to pretty much follow your route. :thumb2

Good to see the little lady's view of the trip as well.

*Actually I fancy taking the bike but after a disastrous trip to Ireland a few years ago (Sarah's 1st trip on the bike) SWMBO has given a firm no to that idea.

:D

Susan ....

I have some sympathy for your dear husband ... Putting your helmet on like a Mo Farah is frankly, quite uncool. Far better to put it on like a woolly hat - holding the very beginnings of the chin bar on both sides and tossing your hair momentarily in the wind just as you commit.

Sadly My wife still insists on closing her visor with the palm of her entire hand on the whole face of the visor :blast For four years I've been telling her there's a little tab on the bottom left corner that she can delicately pinch with thumb and forefinger, keeping her nicely cleaned visor crystal clear, but nope, she still has to look like a delinquent every time she opens and closes it.

I'm with you on the 'other biker - go into twat mode' though :D I mean .. FFS ... I've been riding for nearly thirty years and probably grew out of that over 6 months ago ...

x

Apologies for lack of ride reports as we have been out of wifi/interweb and tonight although at the beccleuluch arms hotel with full strength Wifi they also have full strength Guinness which I intend to fill myself up on so the las 2 days and tomorrows will have to wait but I do promise .........

I think you should get your to write it .... I reckon it would be a cracking read ... :D

I think the "Twat Pose" at The Applecross Inn is very impressive for a 1st ride report.

Bravo Sir ....and Madame...

:beerjug:

Come on get on with it, i'm enjoying this, a few naked pictures of your wife really does achieve much higher viewings BTW:thumb

Susan, I may be in love with you... Move to Hampshire with me... The suns always shining, and I take all my bike Holidays heading south to the Med..... Feck Scotland, it's always raining..... Sooner they get independence the better.. IMO....

Righto
Since I left you lot last we have arrived back home so to catch up In easy chunks since we left off

Or day round skye went as follows:
Departed Strathcarron on the A890 which is a fantastic road up and down round and round then onto the A87 to Skye over the bridge which Susan loved ( as previously mentioned she does like a nice bridge ) Staying on the A87 to Portree which is a good road but with variable surfaces !

From Portree the A855, this road begs you to be a hooligan and screams at you to lift the front wheel over its humps, I didn't I promise officer. Staying on here right round the top of the isle ImageUploadedByTapatalk1376594207.757042.jpg
Then joining the A87 again until the A850 to dunveggan where we stopped for a little something at a great place called Jans ImageUploadedByTapatalk1376594378.961423.jpg

We had this ImageUploadedByTapatalk1376594417.315176.jpg and this ImageUploadedByTapatalk1376594437.052001.jpg and this ImageUploadedByTapatalk1376594462.551929.jpg

Not cheap but well worth stopping at !
And so suitably refreshed onwards and on to the B885,which is just the sort of road a GS was made for, and so back to Portree and return the way we came

After our last night in the Strathcarron hotel it was time to head for Moffat the long way around !
I've done this route before and it's tough and I was a little worried about Susan hacking it but her opinion will follow
Any way
Out of Strathcarron on the previously mentioned route to the A87 and the obligatory photo at Eilean Donan ImageUploadedByTapatalk1376594849.904718.jpg then a bit of a hoon to the A82 at Invergarry and a bit more of a hoon to Fort William and then on to Oban

Then the A816 !,, Christ this is a wonderful road it just keeps on giving and giving I cannot tell you how much I love this road but I want to move to Oban so I can ride it every day !!,

From there it's onto the A82 and pick up a motorway round Glasgow down to Moffat
I didn't come in over the mountain on the northern loop as I've done it before and I needed to cut some miles off this day for my lovely GF
A night at the bucleuluch arms

And so today
Departed Moffat north on the A701 and did the 3 lochs route to Selkirk ImageUploadedByTapatalk1376595429.448351.jpg

The B7009 followed by the B6357 then some more roads to Hawes, kettlewell, pately bridge the A1 and home

Total miles 1446
Average speed 47 mph ( not too shabby considering)

Some observations and moans about kit etc

Bike has been faultless

Anakee 3 on the front completely fecked now after 6 k

Anakee 2 on rear well squared off and had it

Klim badlands suit has been and is brilliant

Wunderlicht boxer bag under the rear rack is not waterproof despite claims

The hotels we used

The Meryburn hotel in Birnam
A bit run down in a faded but nice way. Hillary the owner could not be more helpful and lovely, nothing is too much trouble. A very nice bar area with decent food
Very good breakfast ability to park bike securely ish

The Strathcarron hotel
Not the swankiest but comfortable and again Andrew Eileen and Ian are incredibly helpfull and friendly
Great bar with some colourful locals
Good food great breakfast and a good base to ride out from

Bucleuluch arms in Moffat

A bit run down but not too bad, it has made it's reputation on being bike friendly but I think this has become a bit too cold and business like bike friendly
Decent food tho and again a great stop off either direction but I think better could be found

If any one wants GPX files with the routes please PM me and I can e mail them I think

All in all a bloody good trip only marred slightly by the weather !

This is Susan's short but sweet view of the trip

A lot learned from Scotland trip. Wheelies are not 'fun'. They are undignified. Hein Gericke bin bags are not comfortable and do not stop water trickling down the back of your neck. It is good to have the sides of your tyres worn and much fun can be had checking this out on other bikes (not). Slow car drivers are cock ends. The road out of Oban is the greatest. Cock ends are responsible for gritting roads. Hair tongs are excess baggage. I need to 'man up'. Bikers are friendly. Wild flowers cannot be identified at speed. Scenery is spectacular. Would go back tomorrow if I could.

Sing along now ...

Oh! Susan, I am but a fool
Darling, I love you though you treat me cruel
You hurt me and you make me cry
But if you leave me, I will surely die

Susan, you need to meet my wife ... I think you'd get on famously ... :thumb2
