Please sponsor me and support Cancer Research UK & Acorns Children's Hospice Trust

Hi Everyone!

I'm looking for kind hearted bikers to support me in my sponsored motorbike challenge - the 'Long Way Up!' http://www.longwayup.org

In August my brother and I are riding from Matlock Bath to Land's End to John O'Groats and back to Matlock Bath, stopping off along the way to climb the three highest mountains in England Scotland and Wales - it'll take 9 days and we'll cover over 2,000 miles and climb a total height of 11,000ft. We're doing it to raise money for Cancer Research UK and the Acorns Children's Hospice Trust (based in the West Midlands). I'll also be conducting research into motorcycle ergonomics and generally spreading the word about the benefits of motorcycling.

Although its a way off, we've set up sponsorship pages on justgiving.com and would really appreciate people sponsoring us now. You can also dedicate our challenge to someone you know and we'll take a list of names on our journey! If anyone fancies joining in/fundraising, we'll also be organising opportunities to meet up. We also have Mick Extance joining us along the way so you might get to hang out with a Dakar legend! Keep an eye on our website for updates (I'll also post something on the forum nearer the time).

You can to give money specifically to one charity or make a payment to each:

Cancer Research UK http://justgiving.com/longwayup-cancerresearch

Acorns Children's Hospice Trust http://justgiving.com/longwayup-acorns

You can also sponsor us using PayPalhttp://www.paypal.com and the amount you give will be split between the two charities. Paypal take payments in different currencies. Just log onto their website and follow the simple steps to send us money using our account email address [email protected]

Please sponsor us and help raise as much as possible for these two very deserving charities. Thanks for your time and hope to meet as many people as possible along the way! Please feel free to email this message to anyone else you know who might be interested in sponsoring us and/or dedicating the challenge to someone they know.

Thanks very much

Alex

Alex- you're doing a great job, it's a good challenge and we all wish you luck I'm sure.

We have a long history of lots of great charity events and fund raising events here, as you'll see if you have a look around.

May I respectfully suggest that rather than spamming your event all over the forum, you constrain yourself somewhat???

Your appeal would probably go down slightly better with the UKGSer populace if, when appealing to us to sponsor you, you had actually become a sponsor of the board first......otherwise it just looks like someone popping in and spamming the place asking for money rather than someone from the community looking to their friends for support ;)

Good luck with the challenge.......I'm sure people will help if they can, and we do have a huge depth of knowledge and a fantastic support structure here, but at the moment, I'm afraid you appear to be a hit and run merchant asking for cash.......

Hope to hear more from you and about your event and I'm sure you'll get the support you deserve.....spamming the forums isn't the way to achieve it though matey ;)

Best regards

Bill

Hi Fanum

I'm new to this on-line jiggery pokery and am very sorry for spamming - I didn't realise the protocol of things ... is it possible to delete my spams and keep just the one in the charity section? I'd like to re-assure everyone that I'm not a 'hit and run' merchant - I was genuinely trying to organise meeting up along the way (hence the different areas with specific dates of when I plane to be travelling). I take my forum membership seriously and now realise that I've been a bit too eager and also unaware of how it works - not a good start!! I'm sorry that I've caused any problems!

Well said Bill... well said Alex ... :thumb2

All the best with the Long Way Up.... I'll now be chipping in :bounce1

Hi, Thanks for your support and being understanding. I'm still trying to get the hang of the forum (maybe therein lies the moral of the story and I should have waited before posting my charity plea!) - I can't seem to contact moderators directly to get the other postings deleted (I tried to do it myself and it wouldn't let me). Thanks again for not blanking me! Cheers for now Alex

Alex, don't worry about the other posts...we'll let those stand 'cos it's a good cause (and because to be honest you've responded so well ;) )

Good luck with your trip :thumb
