Round 'n' round in circles.........
How would it be best to do it?

Take the whole 9 days as one circular route or break each day into 9 seperate routes?

To me, it would make sense to have 9 seperate routes, each one starting from the finish point from the day before, if that makes sense

Break it into separate days. First time I did one long outbound route and one long return route and it was a nightmare on the V.

If you happen to go further than that days destination just start the next days route.

Adam :)

Yes, definitely! One big route is hard to handle. It takes long to load and to recalculate. You can't see the miles to go / ETA for the day. And if it goes tits up, your whole trip is f#cked.

One route per day is a lot easier to handle. And if you use route names starting with 01-02-... or A-B-... they appear in the right order in your route list.

Happy planning!

Split it up...........

Another tip.... Make sure you put as many waypoints in throughout your proposed trip, as I have found that even with the best planning you usually stray from your planned route (hey thats half the fun) and so its sometimes easier, to just tell the GPS to go to a particular destination which could be a town some miles away which you were thinking of stopping at anyway.

Your GPS will usually pick the same route as your mapsource on the PC anyway (unless you have custom prefs) so they wont be much different.

I was intrigued by the difference in available route preferences between Mapsource and my 2610. On the GPS there is a slide scale for preference of 3 road types (I think). Whilst Mapsource has:
Route style - Auto routing / Direct routes
Calculation style - Faster time / Shorter distance
try to avoids - U-turn / Highways / Unpaved roads / Toll roads etc

Whilst applying what I considered to be "similar" settings in Autoroute and Mapsource, and comparing the outcome with what my GPS made of a route using the same waypoints (again with my understanding of similar settings) the outcomes could be quite different. In tweaking settings to close the gap, this just brought further confusion.

My only real and general preference is to avoid Motorways and whilst I don't really care about Autoroute, I would like settings for Mapsource/2610 to bring a standard result.

Any suggestions?

Thank you gents, its as I thought then.

I just need to decide on where the hell I am going now.........see other thread in Travel!

I collect them, sad I know. :(

OK then, lets test your knowledge of maps then?

What maps do I need to cover a journey from Calais, then roughly a straight line down to Geneve, Torino, around the Alps, back up Strasbourg and the Black Forest and back to Calais.

PS

I collect maps as well, but Landranger and Explorer ones, not cut my teeth overseas yet!

BTBR give these peole a ring. I use them for all my maps. Just ring them tell them were from and where to and they will tell you exactly which maps you require and how much. Usually next day delivery. They do every Michelin map that is produced.

511 - Nord - Pas de Calais Picardie

515 - Champagne Ardennes

520 - France Comte

523 - Rhone Alpes

527 - Provence, Alpes, Cote d'azur

And just in case 516 - Alsace, Lorraine.

:)

All the service stations sell at least the one that covers the region/department it's in.

Thinking of getting them printed on parachute silk and having them sewn into the lining of my jacket.

Just in case I get captured by the Oberkommando der Wehrmacht :)
