Initially I struggled with Basecamp, having been a long time fan of Mapsource I was cursing the decision by Garmin to drop it in favour of the new pretender... Even the name evokes thoughts of hiking and camping, reflecting maybe a tendency to divert away from road users towards the recreation market...

However, some persistence and the purchase of a Zumo meant I am now starting to accept it a little more and have put some time into getting to grips with it's foibles.

As I did with Mapsource I have just created a short video tutorial on creating a route, searching and adding way-points. Obviously there are those with more extensive knowledge of the product but I haven't seen a video that will guide the new user to do these things.

Here it is, let me know if it's useful. It's in HD so you can enlarge to full screen for the sake of clarity.

There maybe alternative, and more efficient, ways but this is the way that I currently perform these tasks.

Sorry about the occasional 'stumblings', I'm still getting to grips with it all myself...

I'll add further videos in a while.

Very useful, I hadn't realised their were different planning modes for car and bike, which explains me tearing my hair out when it tried to make my routes go in very unusual directions :blast

All very useful - thanks very much. The similarity between Basecamp and Mapsource means anybody using either system would benefit from these tutorial vids.

Thanks
Rik

Perfect! I can't afford to tear my hair out; I've not got much left. Where's the thank you button when you need it?

Here it is! Thanks a lot - really useful stuff.

Thanks for that. Have been putting off using it Luddite that I am, have followed your tutorial and progress has been made. Still prefer Mapsource at the moment. Elements of Basecamp are slicker especially speed it works with Google Earth. Will persevere.:thumb

Many Thanks
Andrew

I've been migrating from Mapsource to Basecamp and whilst still not convinced that it's any better, I am shocked to discover that there is no postcode search with Basecamp...WTF ??
