Plum Pudding Hertfordshire Trail ride - EVENT CANCELLED

I've just abandonned my planned reccie of the complete route.

In short, the trails are fine and because of the hard ground could be easiliy ridden on any bike.

But numerous road sections are lethal with huge areas of sheet boiler-plate ice from frozen field run-off. Given the ambient temperatures, this is not going to change before tomorrow.

I'll run it again as soon as I can sort a date.

Sorry all.

:(

poop .............. i was looking forward to actually meet new people and doing my first off road event with professionals :augie

happy new year to you all

good on you greg for doing a reccie first:thumb2

Thanks very much for doing the recce Greg, appreciated - I'd have been in a world of trouble on that

Look forward to the rescheduled date :thumb2 Happy New Year all!

Shame that the event had to be cancelled but the right decision, I rode to work this morning at 3am and back home at midday and the roads aren't exactly bike friendly :eek.
On the plus side at least I should be able to make the rearranged event!

This is what the roads were like at midday today - none of this is snow, it's just frozen run-off:

At 10.00hrs this morning they were skating rinks!

Greg

Good call Greg,
I was in Essendon this morning to do a couple of local lanes and the roads are deadly!:(

Hi Greg,

I was up for a brass monkeys ride out, but I’d say you’ve made the right decision. I finished running my bike in during the last lot of snow – not ideal running in conditions - picture attached (I hope-first attempt). The green lanes were great fun, first crash was a laugh as the snow was thick. Next two crashes were on the country lanes (roads) which were skating rings as you have said. Bike and I did manage to make it home in one piece though :eek.

Hopefully I can make the next ride out.

David

Thank you Greg the roads looked treacherous :eek fair play on the recce see you all soon.
Still got to take the Parrot to SBW to look at the problem :augie Bike's are loaded on the truck so we'll pootal over some time in the morning.

Did you change the sprockets? Doesn't look like it!

Greg

Greg, that was my running in photo, I've only managed 4 hours so far with xmas etc.
Sprockets are now changed (Changed both front and rear sprockets-guess that was what was needed after running in, had to remove a link from the o-ring chain ), 1st service done (valve clearance took some time) all ready for the cancelled ride out, doh :tears

Preparation

Hi Greg........good decision, even main roads were not good as I found out going to SBW at 9 this morning.......didn't check thread so just got up and went.

Suspiciously quiet in SBW yard, and message waiting from you. Moral - prepare better..... (my dad used to say that too).

However, nice cup of coffee and found some very keen clothing pricing up in the parts dept who are obviously trying to shift gear............worth a try if anyone is looking for new stuff. Eg Motorrad Enduro trousers for £70.

Look forward to rerun when you can fix it.
