The chosen frequency can be supplemented by an analogue tone or a digital code (not both). If a tone or code is used by the transmitting radio, the receiving radio must be set to the same code or else the message will not get through.

There are 51 different standard analogue tones ranging from 67.0 Hz to 270.4 Hz (plus no tone at all being the 52nd option).

And there are 83 different digital codes with values from 023 to 754. These are not interchangable with the analogue tones.

Not all PMR radios will offer all the tones and codes.

So to set your radio you must:

* choose one of the eight frequencies
* then chose either an analogue tone value OR a digital code OR neither.

Away you go!

Oh yeah, real easy Greg

Why can't it just be as simple as 'let's all use channel 7'???

Ok, we can't but that's the way it should be.

Come the revolution..........

I have Icom F22SR, Kenwood TK3101 and Uniden something or other. How do I make them talk to each other? Simple key up one and autoscan the others until we receive on them.

It's what I do everytime I go out, takes about 3 mins to sort and I don't lose any by talking about Quiet Talk and Digital Quiet Talk) (or what Icom refer to as Continuous Tone Coded Squelch System or Digital Tone Code Squelch and if I go passed a Chinese take away I do just that pass it - no dramas :thumb

Ok, it's time for someone to grasp this by the 'nads - what's the channel, code and put on the sticky section?

I've looked, looked and better looked and cannot see anything about a digital sub code on the Wintec.

Jeessuss.... Just read this lot :eek ..and I thought wiring up the autocom hiding the 7 miles of assorted wires, plugs lalala was the hard bit.... :nono

Hi

Most radios Icom, Kenwood, Intaride, all start with channel No1, Frequency of PMR 446.00625

The CTCSS tone is set for 94.8 on the Kenwood & Icom radios

Channel No1 is in all probability the best channel for the GS’s as most radios will commence with 446.00625 & the CTCSS tone set to 94.8. :thumb :thumb :thumb

Not all radios have Digital Tone Code Squelch but most have CTCSS Tone Code Squelch

Shall we just stick to a hearty wave when we see another GSer :D
