PMR Radios - Which frequency?

I think the majority use the Kenwood channels. The group I ride with use channel 3. ISTR this being called the unofficial bikers channel by someone.

Channels 1,3 and 10 are common frequencies between Kenwood and the other brands of PMR. Then of course you have to have the same CTCSS selection (or none) to hear your mates

A calling channel for Tossers was mooted some years ago but the inevitable eye gouging, keyboard warrioring, name calling and sulks ensured that nothing came to pass .......... :blast

thanks chaps - will ensure I have same frequencies programmed to the channels - just in case :thumb

If you have no CTCSS set then you'll be able to hear them but not them you. You need to find out exactly what frequency and tone combinations they're running in advance of a ride as faffing about at the roadside probably won't go down well with everyone else.

A few of the guys I ride with regularly have a ride-out maybe once a year that's specifically designated as a tech fettling day where we sort out comms, sat navs etc. as well as get a few miles under the tyres. I find his very useful as there's no one local to me that would want to test this sort of thing.

Mmmmm just got a message back from my supplier in SA.....

Default on the ZA708 is Ch 1 -8 on Freq 1-8 tone 10, Ch 9-16 freq 1-8 with tone 20. So from your chart only channel 1 is compatible.

By the way you could reprogram the ZA708 for all channels to work if you have a Kenwood cable. Software avail from our website for download.

I have the software on my Laptop - so I could merely re-program my radio. At least I know I'll have the possibility of comms.?

(maybe I can buy one on fleabay? ......... yep got one!)

what is the softwear that re programms this radio called..........is it kenwood kpg or chinese ?

The software I use is in English........ as mentioned my radio is the exact same as the Intek MT-446EX, which is available over here..... just a different name.

You can see the radio here: http://www.zartek.co.za/za708.htm

on the left of the website page is the Download section - the software is available for free here.... get it & try it...?

Goose ............wanna up your power and turn on hidden functions like voice scrambling?

Try the BF-480 software ...........just be aware that some web downloaded versions come with malaware.

Those little chinese radios have the following functions:

scan......set to ch 16 and enable all ch scan via bf 480 software and it will scan all 16 channels

voice inversion speech scrambling..............set beat shift 'on' via bf 480 prog and you will sound like a drunken donald duck to anyone who has not enabled this on their radio

power............yes of course you can have 3 watts on battery,5 watts on 12v supply........just select 'HIGH' on the bf 480 prog

wide / narrow deviation.........narrow is my default but adjustable to cater for other radio systems via the bf 480 prog

enjoy

:thumb I actually gave a nice long story to the suppliers and they let me have the Dealer software.

Using the Channel 16 Scan and have a nice output from the radio.... .... also installed one of Troggy's Aerial kits for the bike (Bikers Oracle) - that should be sufficient! :thumb
