I've subscribed to the pgpsw database and loaded the data onto my BMW Nav III. After I very short while I disabled voice alert (or rather ping...) as there are so many sites for mobile and unverified mobile cameras on the database that it was going off about every 500yards. I've taken out the unverified mobile sites to reduce the false alarms, and I'd like to carry on using it, but might need a bit of help with the set up.

1) Can I set the Nav 3 to give voice instead of "ping"

2) Is there anyway to make it directional, so it doesn't go off if the camera is pointing the other way?

On the basis of my experience with the nüvis in both SWMBO's car and mine, I suspect that the answers are no and no - in that order.

SWMBO hates the "bongs" which alert you to the presence of an approaching camera site that she turns off the proximity alerts whereas I just hope that they're in the same key as whatever my iPod happens to be playing at the time. :augie

Or you could just open your eyes and look for the fooking great yellow boxes on 15ft poles.

Works for me:augie

thanks John, downloaded the voice stuff. Any ideas on making it directional?

Unfortunately no :(

One of the problems I guess is that a lot of the motorway bridges for mobiles will be both way and many of the fixed ones can be used both ways.

Or you could just open your eyes and look for the yellow boxes hidden behind overgrown foliage just over the brow of a hill on a the only bit of dual carriageway that's the only place you can safely overtake the irritating twat that's been doing 40 around all the bends and speeds up to 60 on all the straights

Works for me:augie

fixed it for you:comfort
