Pole support for hammock on open ground.

Just hang on a frigging minute! :rob
They “ the professional “ measured that coin in the big flat middle bit of the jaws and NOT the tip! Exactly where I was measuring! :blast
They're measuring the outside of two curves, you had one jaw on the inside of a curve, so the thicker flat doesn't contact the curve at the same point as the outer jaw, it creates a chord. It's why the tips are ground thin, to overcome this.

That's fine if you ae measuring the OD.

If you are measuring the ID of a pipe (ie with curved inside edges), you use the tips of the jaws (ie the part of the caliper least affected by the curvature).

He wont be told. The problem then becomes the distance the tips are away from the measuring scale, out of square introduces error.

There was a guy in the UK selling a hammock solution where no trees were available but haven't found his site.

It was a similar solution as this https://www.tensaoutdoor.com/shop/?v=79cba1185463 but this is from NZ (not an issue, just a bit of postage?)

The problem being they are American, not Kiwi.... and a set up like I am making is over £400, just for the poles and guy lines, and then risk duty and VAT on top.... I have been following the development of the TENSA system (see earlier posts) since it was first devised. They did a quadrahedral version first, using 4 long poles that don't need guy ropes. From that they developed the pole and guy lines. Other people have done similar - see the You Tube where the chap just uses a broom handle.

You confused me when you said this.
Thanks Alistair. I have ordered a set. :thumby: To be honest, that Camping site EVSKi linked to has a set on offer for £35 delivered
Easy to misinterpret? :nenau

KR, have a look at Robens tarp poles. I have two sets, they come in 2 different sizes so I can mix and match to get different combinations of heights. Very strong and very light too. :thumb2

It was your link I bought from! I am living up to my name, again. :D

Didn’t go so well according to a voicemail I got earlier!
I’m pretty amazed because the poles seem quite strong.

I got the angles wrong apparently. The poles should have been more upright, not so angled.

I shall try again because many other people are doing it successfully on some pretty oridinary poles. I just need some help in how t set it up, I am sure those tarp poles would have worked if they had been set correctly.

I was surprised when you said they collapsed. They should’ve taken the weight quite easily. :nenau Hey ho, you live and learn, trial and error. :thumb2
