Polis Scotland Road Policing review

And that Traffic police make a significant contribution to disrupting serious organised crime groups..

In my humble opinion..
Good traffic cops use traffic offences as a ‘starter for 10’ always looking for far more serious stuff… that’s where the overtime is!

Always said any Ops support officers whether they be traffic, dogs or firearms got to see the bigger picture as they crossed over not only sub divisional l but area command boundaries and got access to intelligence ftom all the areas .

FFS by the time I retired they were restricting local area command cops access to computer intelligence to the sub division they were working in and they couldn't even view intelligence on crimes that were happening 2 miles down the road in the same division but a different sub division

So much for joined up thinking looking at the bigger picture and shared intelligence

Just how many man hours are going to be swallowed up by trying to implement even half of this stuff? The police can't do their job as it is now, and that's not so much a criticism as a damming slap down of how underfunded and over burdened by bureaucracy they are

As part of my job I work with SPARC (Scottish Partnership Against Rural Crime) which is a multi-agency body led by Police Scotland. Through this during the last 6-7 years, thefts of expensive machinery & equipment (think £280k or more for a tractor, and even £15k for a farm GPS) have reduced by almost 40% in volume & value. There are significant SOCG family connections across Northumberland, Scottish Borders and Aberdeenshire, so Northumberland Police are also working with SPARC and are led by Ch.Sup. Andy Huddleston (check him out when he was competing against Dougie Lampkin!)...@NeilW you may be aware? Fortunately, SPARC is well recognised by very senior people in Police Scotland, but I do see and hear of cut backs across other police departments, including roads & traffic, which is bad news for us all north of the border.

FYI, I was recently told that Honda & Stihl are now the only mainstream farm equipment manufacturers who are refusing to include DNA & trackers with their machinery. They confessed this is because if more kit was returned to their owners, it would 'severely damage their sales business model' as victims have to purchase replacements.
