Sorry for the apparent dumbness of this...I have touratwat hand guards fitted ...like these http://shop.touratech.co.uk/vehicle...ck-for-original-bmw-aluminium-handlebars.html in black...now they're scratched to buggery at the moment, simply sanding the scratches out smooths things out but leaves a matt finish...what's best for restoring them to a smoother glossier finish as they originally were?

Would a basic auto-polish work, or would a screen polish be better suited...or is there another way? Does anyone have experience with a product they'd recommend?

I had some deep scratches on my guards. Sanded them out with very fine wet and dry, but had the same problem as you.

I then tried some T cut and polished out the remianing micro-scratches. It took a few applications and I found that rubbing out in a horizontal direction as opposed to circular was best.

Finally, 2 or 3 applications of Car Plan Black Plastic Trim Polish did the trick. It's a black coloured liquid, and if you let it dry before buffing up it builds to a nice gloss.

There is an acrylics polish called Xeropol that's used for screens etc. Use very fine wet/dry with water and then use the Xerpol with a soft polishing mop on a power drill.

As Bendy says. Very good stuff. I used it to take the scratches of the display/dash on my WC. It worked a treat. :aidan

A heat gun will work wonders too. Just a gentle heating to re-black them ;)
