Poor aul Gerry Ryan......

Shocking news, I wasnt a fan but very sorry to rear the news.
He had 5 kids, they must be devestated.
R.I.P Gerry

sad hear that, only 53 as well. feel for his family must be a shock to them

I'm not a fan of his at all but I reckon he should have got the late late show. The only time I've watched it in about 10 years was the night he did it.

dont have rte aerial up yet so cant comment, but was never a fan of any his shows, thats not say didnt like him just not my taste.

some shock to people he knows i would say seen as there wasnt anything mentioned about health issues

Havent heard him lately but never missed his show in the late 90,s:D
One of the only people that i heard say "Fu-K" live on air!:aidan

RIP Gerry:(

Listened to him in the late 90's and into the naughties but got bored with all the info on his personal life. Heard not so long ago he had alcohol related problems :nenau

I think he was devasted not to get the Late Late job, mind you he was the lesser of the 2 evils who were in for it.

God Rest Him

wasnt a fan of his either, But none the less he championed a lot of his listeners causes, and paved the way for a lot of todays DJ's, Most of our generation have listened to him at one stage or another ...RIP Gerry.

the radio in the truck will be very quiet, other than phanton fm,he was the only thing i listened too,i really enjoyed him,r.i.p the ryan line is now closed:rose:(

Have to admit to quite a tinge of sadness. Listened to him in the old days back at school when he was on at night at 10 in the evening (2fm, cominatcha), when it was all quite daring, then to the everyday stuff in the mornings in the late 90s, which he was very good at. When you grew up with him, he seemed like one of us (i.e. gobby and an an opinion on everything).

I heard today from my local source of news that Gerry ryan was found dead. One of our neighbours is called Gerry ryan, so I thought oh Shit!!!!

Then he say's twas that fella off the radiogram, and then I just thought oh!

He defintely should have got the late late.

I grew up with 2FM and he seems to have always been at the heart of radio in the past 30 or so years. I'd stopped listening to GR quite a while ago, too much hyperbole hurts at that hour of the day. That said, he was uniquely tuned in to the public and generally sounded content and upbeat, above all he was confident in himself and proud - I guess that at this time especially we need more like him.

He had put on a lot of weight in recent years and I dont think that he looked particularly healthy. I guess that his success allowed him to lead to a relatively "high life" and a combination of things seems to have resulted him putting on a lot of weight. I wonder if he ignored warning signs that all was not well.............we'll never know perhaps. May he rest in peace, my thoughts are with his kids, the youngest being only 9.:rose

Im still in shock Iv been listening to him for 20 odd years,At least he lived life to the fullest and helped alot of people on his way.Not everyones cup of tea but he did make us feel that little bit better in the morning. And he loved to piss authority off.:beerjug:

Me too! Still in shock! I heard on Fri as I headed to the airport and spent all weekend telling friends in Uk that he'd died! Very hard to explain who he was and the impact he had in Ireland.

I didn't listen to him all the time but am really shocked and saddened by his early death.
I can't imagine what his family and friends are going through.

R.I.P
