I just brimmed the tank and reset the trip. The last few tankfuls averaged out at just over 40 mpg. This one was precisely 41.6 mpg and 196 miles to a full tank. The end of my Remus can is sooty and there's an occasional smell of petrol. Not good.... :(

I've recently had two new cylinder heads and a front engine casing fitted under warranty. Whoever thought that water-based paint on magnesium was a good idea is a clown. Prior to this and riding in the same way in the same sort of conditions, I was getting c. 50 mpg. and c. 230 miles to tank.

I've already raised it with the dealership and they said to "keep an eye on it". My eye is done and it's time to make the trek back to Dundee again and say "fix it please".

What sort of fuel consumption are you guys getting....?

42 mpg on motorway blasts, 46 mpg around A & B road in Wales today. Both are 'pure' figures.

(a.k.a. Bert by the way :) )

Hi Bert....(Gary) :) What sort of speeds are we talking and with / without panniers?

I get 50 to 52 mpg without fail :D
Well yes...and that's what I was getting before the new heads were fitted. That was cruising at 80 ish on A roads with the occasional blast up towards licence losing speeds and brisk acceleration without using full throttle very often.

With 'spirited' riding around Norfolk, back an forth to work and some long distance touring I get 50 mpg thats with top box and panniers but not much load.

Hi Mike, the 42 mpg was with a top box and no panniers at a constant(ish) 85 or so with blasts to 120. The 46 mpg I got today was averaging I guess about 50mph on A's and very twisty B roads and without top box and without panniers.
Both of these seem good compared to the VFR. I'm a fairly harsh accelerator so they're about what I'd expect,

Low 40's when giving it stick and boxes on. This means sitting at 100+ on the way to work....135kms in one hour - Well there has to be some advantages to working in Saudi!

Mike it must just be me, but I work it out of how far I get on a full tank including the reserve or whatever it is....

When I dropped the bike off I was managing about 210-220 miles on a tank, so thats not bad but not as good as the last one.

Hi all

not sure if this helps, but whilst running in the new 1200 I got 195 to the warning light (took 16.1 ltrs) 200 to the warning light on the 2nd tank, took 17.2 ltrs
This bike has a standard equipped tank.

The old bike did 145mls ish till the light came on, then would always do 200 when I would then add about 18.5 ltrs, I'm not a gentle/smooth rider and generally dont achieve good fuel figures.

I've just got back from a tour around Europe. 2 up with loadsa luggage, 85-90 on the motorways/autobahns/autostradas and quite a few twisty bits in the Alps, to include Stelvio and Brenner Passes. Over 2300 miles I averaged about 48, but on a previous trip doing a steady 80 it was nearer 51.

Economy

I get around 55 mpg everywhere - doesn't seem to matter whether I'm thrashing or going gently (although going gently tends not to last too long).

On tour in Europe with panniers and a steady 90 on the autoroutes saw this dip to between 45 and 50.

Always hard to be precise because of the hassle of filling the tank right up.

Incidentally, 55mpg was the same as my old XS650 in 1984. I could NEVER get that to vary. Not bad to get same economy from a bike that is much much better (in everything apart from looks)!

Robin.

Average 50.9 with best of 59.4, worst 44, all with top box fitted. Around mid 50s on Mways. But I am a slow coach.

gallons?

Miles per gallon? :tosser never heard of a measurement system more useless.
17 km per liter at best. On A and B roads.

average 230 miles per tank, mainly used for london commutes thru long car parks?!

I'm lucky to get 200 miles on a tank from london commuting.....I don't really spare the horses though. On a gentle run, fully loaded through france, on shell optimax, i got 280miles from the tank, which was bloody good:)

I'm amazed at that figure....how the hell did you manage it, all down hill!
