poor images on net

hi
any thoughts why my pictures on the net are all grainy, on my screen off the net all my stuff is good quality
not much to go on i suppose, worth a go though

Depends what you mean by your pictures on the net. If you are talking about pictures uploaded to Google Picassa for example, you can set an upload quality but even the highest is likely to be a lot lower resolution than the originals.

Also if you are copying pictures using Windows to convert to a suitable email or web format a compression system will be used. Jpeg for example can have a quality setting and lower settings will result in grainy pictures.

Never repeat save a compressed format, e.g, if you have a jpeg image and resave it compression will reduce quality, if you then resave the copy it will again reduce, etc. etc. If you are modifying or copying images always use BMP or TIFF and only copy to jpeg once at the last stage.
