Was tempted by a R100GS back in May... needed some work (under-statement), and was recommended a guy in Cork (an alleged expert, or so i was told)
Told him to do whatever was required to get it mechanically 100%... 3 months later, and 2k (euro, not KM) i got the bike back.... far from 100%..
Had it a week, not running right, so brought it North of the border, to get it the TLC it requires..
See some attached pics of what you get for 2K

I wasn't going to post anything on this, but the pictures say it all.
Annoying to say the least, and feckin expensive :mad:

I'll be staying North from now on !

What does he said he did to it, "Mechanically"?

In fairness, that is a mess, but some of it could be described as 'cosmetic', and if, (for example) he rebuilt the gearbox and did some internal work, that could add up to a fair amount.

I suspect though that you've been had over, but knowing what he claims to have done would be good :)

Nothing internal, and nothing rebuilt....
It did get new tyres, new shock, head bearings, fork seals, service, carbs cleaned (but running like shite ?)
Overall its the fact i got it back in sh*te, and then had to bring it somewhere else, cap in hand... anyway, enough said, and down to experience.. .not much else i can do

Tyres what, 200 Euros a pair?
Shock up to 600 if it's an all singing all dancing fancy one (which you would have mentioned)
Bearings, service and and labour, maximum 400 :nenau

So even being generous to the guy, unless he did something major that you don't know about, he's done you over :(

Guaranteed that in the next few posts, someone will say "name and shame!" but TBH......I'd be back on to the bloke and asking WTF he did to run up a bill like that before you take it public!

(In fact, I wouldn't have paid it to start off with, but it's too late for that)

why did you pay him or take back the bike in that condition? He is just going to say that you have it back so long and it wasnt like that when he gave it back to you and so on and on. You are around on this site a while and you must have some knowledge even at a basic level. JJH

It simple, i was too trusting... i went down to collect the bike and before taking it out, i paid up... when we took it out, he wasn't happy with it... so decided he needed to spend more time on the carbs... i bused it home and got SWMBO to collect me in Dublin..
He them delivered it to me in Dublin... when i drove it home i wasn't happy, and drove it back to my office on the Monday... then discovered the oil leak from the gear box. (the indicitors didn't even work) He was on Holiday, but i mailed him... wasn't giving it back to him, so arrange an alternative... as you say i've been on here for a while. i 've bought many bikes from fellow members and never been "shafted"... this guy was recommended to me, and i expected a level of service, not what i got.
I've had to sell 2 bikes to cover the cost of this, and have had no bike for the summer, so i've learned my lesson, and some may say, deservedly so , for being trusting... best case now, no one else makes the same mistake....

Hi Dakar

Seen your bike up at Yodas place
Nothing much more i can say that you haven't already said.

But he will treat you fairly and straight plus you will have a nice going bike when finished.

I'm really sorry for your pedricment. Re reading my post it does read rather harshly specialy as he was "kind enough to deliver" to you in Dublin he wasn't leaving you much chance not to take it. At some stage you will be asked to name and shame so you may as well do it now. I'm a fan of Yoda having bought a bike from him before I can say he is more than fair your bike is in good hands. JJH

Jebus Dakar horrible predicament you are in, really sorry to hear you had to sell bikes to get out of this one!!!

Did you not take it for a spin when he delivered it to you to see if it was running OK when he took it off the trailer or out of the van?

Don't forget the guy has his money already. JJH

There are two sides to every story and it would be more fitting to reserve judgement until one hears both sides.
In my line of work I listen to both sides of every issue prior to making judgements, perhaps forum users should do the same. :)

may one ask what line of work

I don't hear anyone with the other side of the story or do you know something? JJH

Its a p*ss poor service, literally.

Dakar is right to be annoyed.

How can their be two sides to fixing a bike, charging someone a lot of money and then giving them a bike back after months and its not really any better than when it went in.

Half done job, end of.

You cant rebut his anger and frustration.
