Well actualy in general, backfiring on deceleration (as opposed to acceleration) is generally caused by a lean condition in the fuel circuit. What happens is that the mixture leans out enough to where is fails to ignite consistently. This, in turn allows some un-burnt fuel to get into the exhaust pipes. Then when the engine does fire, these un-burnt gasses are ignited in the exhaust pipe and slippers, causing the backfire. Aftermarket pipes
and slippers often increase backfiring, probably because they may the bike run leaner.

I have listened to my 12 accelerating and decelorating, and I think it actually makes enough noise, quiet fruity actually. This coming from a person who had a full Remus Grand Prix, on his 1100, and a Remus Titanium on his 1150 Adv.

more interestingly, he told me that the design of the silencer has changed. early 12s had a valve in the can that prevented popping on the overrun, but this has been removed on the later models which are more prone to this issue.
they also sound different.
It`s all part of the joy of the boxer. My old 1150GSA with a Y piece and Remus sounded brilliant with th epopping and as soon as I have enough pennies in the jar, as nice system for the 1200GSA will be on and poppin` like Mary
I also have a R1100S Boxer Cup with the full Laser deeptone system and that is incredible on the overrun. In fact, if you throttle back very gently from around 6000 rpm it does it on command and I sit there hoping there is 3 feet of flame licking out

I've never "canned" any bike I've owned (Bandit included) but I'm sooooo tempted to can the 12. There's a bridge up the road from me with high stone walls each side on the downhill approaches & it sounds magic to roll off the 12 through there. The GS is turning me into a hooligan

As my R90/6 used to do this as it aged, I found that making sure that you are closing the throttle all the way while de-accelerating (such as when coming to a stop) tends to eliminate a lot of this. I found that I had developed a bad habit of leaving the throttle open just a bit...enough to leak unburnt fuel into the exhaust system-

Same combination and interesting results with the Wunderlich Power Commander, reduces but not eliminates popping and stops your breathing when the revs rise.

My 1200adv popps for fun and it sounds soooo good, but is it linked to bad vibes in any way?
I suffer from bad bar vibes at 80-90 causing numbness in my pinkies, so could the popping be bad fuel mix, unbalanced carbs...?

Odd you should say that... My 1200GS vibes at that speed too (so they tell me, officer) but the vibes are getting better as the bike is getting more miles up - it's now much smoother than it was.
