I was thinking about buying my girlfriend an ipod for her birthday next week, but she said a DAB radio would get more use. After reading reviews on Amazon and various places I'm still not sure which pocket DAB to buy, has anyone here bought one or is able to make a suggestion as what I should buy?!

Thanks,
Dan.

Don't get the Sony one - I had two - both broke and went back - too fragile by far, and the normal radio reception was rubbish even when it was working.

I now have a Perstel - it's been excellent, even though I run it on the bike for 3 hours a day commuting. And it was under £50, as opposed to the Sony's £100+.

not unless you are only just a little bit abroad, like Calais or the Isle of Wight

Will a Digi radio work abroad - that is, will it pick up uk stations ?

Bilks.

Depends on where you are, and the receiver you have.

Some are like tri-band phones - they will take the foreign DAB signal (L band), others not (band 3 only, the UK band). Obviously, you have to be in a DAB covered area, transmitting the programmes you want. So, BBC World Service, yes - lots of places. BBC London, for example - no.

which model?
I assume from the context that the reception is OK even on the move?

DR101. http://www.digitalradiodab.com/acatalog/Perstel.html

FM is pertty good always, not quite car RDS good, but perfectly listenable. The DAB is a little more variable - pretty solid inside the M25 for me, more variable outside, as all DAB is. Seems no worse than when static.

I put an extra ariel on the bike (£5ish parts store) and clip to the existing ariel with a croc clip - sometimes helps, othertimes not - works without always, but somtimes reception is a little better, depending on the weather.
