Folks,

I'm looking for some pointers, the good lady and I are off for a weekend away since both our birthdays are in Feb, and it's Karens 40th (:comfort), so what do you recommend in a 2-3 hours driving radius of Glasgae, preferably in a small town or coutryside, not particularly wanting to go to a large city.

So far been to
Lodge on Loch Lomond (priced themselves oot the market),
Whistlefield Inn (very good),
The George (Inverary, again very good),
various B&B in Inverness,
A wee place in Annin that looks like a Lairds hoose,
MacDonald Hotel just outside Cardona (pish),
Cameron House (too expensive ),

Any suggestions ?

cheers

Try here

Fantastic quality and John and Irene are very good hosts... ask for the Stag room for your special occasion...;)

Roddy, I can heartily recommend the Glengarry Castle Hotel up at Invergarry.

It's pretty pricey, but for a special occasion is well worth it in my opinion. Mandy and I stayed there for a night as a wee treat on our tour of Scotland in 2007 and thoroughly enjoyed it. :)

I'm not sure how much help this is going to be as I can't even remember the name, but...

I stayed in a fabulous hotel in Sterling probably about 10 years back, not cheap, but great food, great location, amazing wine!

but buggered if I can remember any useful info about it :(

I can't recommend any hotels in the area as I live here and don't use them but you could choose one close to Oban and make it a very special stay by taking the seaplane from the Clyde at the Science centre to Oban bay but that's another ~ £178 return each.

Some 4*'s in the Oban area and I'm told that there is a 5* just south of the town. I'll see if I can get the name:thumb2

possibly the Hydro which is just outside Stirling at Dunblane ?

Pitlochry?

It's a favourite of mine, the restaurant is excellent (the rooms are OK to decent) and Moulin is 1 mile up the hill from Pitlochry - so you're just nicely out of the way. Good walks etc. They brew their own beer too....and if you went on the 17th/18th of Jan you could even have a ride out... :augie

I dunno if you could do this in a 3-hour radius:

Excellent place, the menu is outstanding. We only went for an overnight stop and ended up staying nearly a week so we could 'do' the menu properly:eek:

Ask for Room 7 - nice deco and views.:thumb
