Excellent place, the menu is outstanding. We only went for an overnight stop and ended up staying nearly a week so we could 'do' the menu properly:eek:

It's a bit far, but I have eaten in it when we went last year on the bike, there fish and chips was brilliant.

Cheers for the pointers folks, I see what available, I'm leaving it a bit late.

Would you consider Ireland ? Have a wee lookie here

Lovely part of the country. Heavily linked to the film The Quiet Man

:aidan

Been to Ireland a few times, love the place. we're just up against a time frame. What with finishing work on the Friday and getting the kids to the grandparents, so we tried to keep it local.

Did ya have a wee look at the hotel, fine spot isn't it  :thumb2

I would love a night or 2 there :(

:aidan

Maybe not the high end of posh Roddy, but why not consider the Bridge of Cally Hotel? A popular Tossers spot. Prices are spot on. The rooms are clean and very comfy, grub is excellent and the bar is well stocked and has a roaring fire on. :thumb2

It does look very nice, hard to imagine at some pint that was somebody's home ?

Looks nice and cozy, I like that, we've provisionally booked a room at the George in Inverrary, but it might fall through if it does, I might just give the Bridge of Cally a wee call. :thumb2

Thanks for the pointers folks, there's a few ideas for the future, though I best get saving for some of them :thumb

Get her on the back of the bike Roddy and head for The Floddigarry Hotel in Skye ,food good location second to none ,and well out the road of the Waternish riff raff :thumb2

Airth Castle, near Kincardine Bridge is excellent. Get a room in the Castle, food is excellent, pool area and Steam Room are really nice. They do some deals which include evening meal. Can thouroughly recommend it!

We got a deal through either lete Rooms or Hotell conexions for DBB for £105!!

Monachyle Mhor in the Trossachs - superb - 4 miles up a single track road from Balquhidder, on Loch Voil. Comfortable rooms, friendly people and the best food I have had in Scotland. Very romantic ;).

Web site here worth a look

I'm hoping to get away on the bike, but it wouldn't be the first time we've been snowed in somewhere at the end of Feb. We did a wee camping trip to Skye last year and it was a bit much for the good lady to do that length of trip in one go.

since we normally go away in Feb cause both our birthdays are in the same month and Oct for our anniversary, so we'll work our way through them :thumb2

there's alot of good sugestions in this wee thread, I'm going to keep it open for reference and so it can be added too also I'll never remember them all :D,

Take a look at

www.dalhousiecastle.co.uk

(sorry I've got no idea how to make it a direct link - luddite). I took my beloved there to propose and we ended up going back there to get married last year. Not the cheapest of places but they do have some special offers on. Can recommend their 'romantic break' very, very highly.

Located in own grounds, only about 10 miles south of Edinburgh, but feels a milllion miles from anywhere.

Surely she's worth it for a special occasion.:bounce1

Agreed. Might be an idea to add the links to the Discover Scotland sticky (the ones not already featured). Garfield could maybe see to that :thumb2

...Stobo Castle and its a good run down on the bike - heard they had some deals on...but it might be a bit pricey...
