positive vibes please

It's not real life dear, it's an internet forum :thumb2

Everyone who has had a problem will post that problem here.....but the vast majority, who have never had a problem, will just get on with enjoying the bike.

Anything you pick up from the 'sad news' should be viewed with that in mind.....the GS isn't where it is today because it's a crap bike, and you have to get things in perspective.....if you read the equivalent forums for pretty much any marque of bike and take it to heart, you would feel the same way about ALL bikes :blast

Of course, riding a 1200 does mean you are ghey, inadequate and a sad wannabe, but that goes without saying ;)

Don't worry about it, just enjoy it :clap
Well. I can honestly say that when I had my twin cam 1200 it was fekcing brilliant. it did exactly what i wanted it to, when I wanted it to. I even managed a trip to Wales in the snow (only to find that they were snowbound in Wales and almost none could come out to play.) It went well, handled well, wheelied well (officer) sounded really rather nice as well. If I hadn't had to sell it to raise some money PDQ I'd still have it and be thoroughly enjoying it..

There you go, is that positive enough for you then???

Absolutely love my DOHC GSA, best bike I've ever owned. May not have the adrenalin rush of my K6 Gixxer thou, but for all round enjoyment it wins hands down. It just makes you enjoy riding, and when I've get back home I'm never satisfied I've been on the bike long enough and want to go back out on it again :thumb2

Nope it's was the French. You guys are all Frogs!! :D

And it's the fault of the English who are really French, that the French are in Canada!

And the Normans were really Vikings.

I am glad that the only true Brits are The Welsh !!--------:D

Ever since 1987 I've alway had at least two bikes in my garage.
And for the last ten of those years, one of those bikes has been a GS (initially a 1150 then 1200's from 2004 on).
Since then, my other bikes have come and gone. But I've always had a GS in my garage.
My current 2009 GSA is the very best yet, and I can't see myself trading it in for a newer model, for at least another year or so.*

IMO, there is no other bike out there that can beat the GSA's all round ability, low maintenance, reliability, handling, character....etc. etc... Its unique, and I love it deeply.

There, is that positive enough for yah fella..:thumb2

the french

Well i am just sitting here with my french girlfriend in the Ardennes and she informs me that all french are............nice :thumb

Hi Savage, this is the technical section, so tends to accumulate problems (and very often, their solutions) rather than "Yup, it's still brilliant!"-style posts. It's a great resource comprising the experience & technical know-how of a huge bunch of GS-ers, or a bunch of huge GS-ers, or something. A few thousand owner-years anyway. Even sympathy, sometimes.

To really feel the GS love, visit the Trip Reports section.

And to paraphrase an old middle Eastern proverb: trust your bike, but carry your mobile.

I still get the same grin on my face every time I get on my GSA after 2 1/2 years of ownership following my first test ride. You can have so much fun on this bike, all year round and any type of road.

That's the trigger I needed to get off my arse - I'm off for a ride

All forums are the same, tales of woe about all the things that have gone wrong, I've done the same but my GSA has, unfortunately, been utterly reliable and fault free over the 6000 miles I have done since May, I'm beginning to think I'm doing something wrong.

you have only done 6000 miles:augie

Been riding

on the roads since 1987 every bike I have owned something has gone wrong, suzuki ts 125 head casket, tdr 250 choke lever snapped, gsx 600f wiring loom snapped at headstock cable tie done up too tight, klr 650 oil seal went, fj1200 rear cush drive rubbers ( think thats how you spell it), fzr exup 1000, no I crashed that one, battery did die, second exup 1000, exup cables seized, aprillia futura rear swing arm went and may electrical problems oh and the rear brake seized on the way to an mot, triumph daytona 955i collant thermosat went in Italy,2004 gs, battery died, FPC went, right hand injector went and rear drive went all in first year, was ace for thye second year until I threw it down the road, wasnt really my fault very dark road and some kind farmer let 10 feet of slurry pellets on the road for me to hit, 2008 GSA just had final drive replaced under warranty at 18000 miles, now has 20500 and seems fine, done over 10000 miles in a year, its never let me down, but is a bit reluctant to start when its hot, point being if you want a GS go get one and enjoy it, all bikes and cars go wrong sometimes, its just part of life, if you read every post on here including some of mine ( not that I post so often anymore too busy riding in the rain and cold) you would never go near a GS, however if you go on any other makes Forums you will find the same.
If a good think happens to you, you might tell 2 or 3 people, if something bad happens you will tell loads it human nature.

I wouldnt swap my GSA for anything, I pay for the BMW warranty and recovery, which I personally have found to be excellent ( though someone will be along soon to say otherwise) ride the bike, clean it every now and then and accept at some point it will go wrong, but I will enjoy it until it does.

Just my 2 pence worth:blagblah:blagblah:blagblah:blagblah:blagblah

Bought my GS new in May, ride it everyday and done way too may miles so resale value has taken a battering but it goes anywhere in all weather, does just what I want a bike to do and is loads of fun to ride. Has it had a problem, yes the clutch packed up but do I care, no. The dealer gave me free coffee, a bacon butty and a loan bike and fixed mine for free. Am I going to change my GS for something else, no bloody way cos' I'm keeping it.

"HAPPY MAKER "

I enjoy my Gs any weather, daytime , season, road or country !

It's the ultimate " HAPPY MAKER " :)
