Possible change of helmet - advice required plse.

Hi folks

Im possibly looking to change my caberg Justissimo to a white Arai Tour-X, but i have the following questions -

This would be my first Arai and my first moto-x style helmet.

On my 1200 GS -

Will the wind hit the 'peak' and try to rip my head off - standard screen tilted as far as poss back, standard seat, 6'3'' tall.

How noisy are they? Compared to the VERY noisy Caberg?

How good are they at keeping the visor fog-free?

Do they come with pin-lock?

*Impotant* Will autocom earpieces fit in with ease (important as i have zero patience!) and be comfortable?

Do they come with an in built sun-visor?

Are the white one's cheaper (usually is the case with helmets?)

How much should i be paying?

If you think i might be better with another helmet please say.

I did a search but nothing seems to cover the tour x quite so in depth.

No comment on the above, but.......

Plenty of peeps ride 650's, 800's (including myself) with no huge issues of windage. Yes, you do need time to get used to it, yes you do start doing lifesavers by tilting your head rather than turning it, but you do get used to it.

Noise is subjective. I've found the TourX quieter on the GS than a lot of other lids, others will disagree. But it beats the Justissimo I had hands down... that was noisy even with ear plugs in.

The TourX 3 comes with pinlock, and doesn't fog the visor. Older TourX's can be a bit foggy, but you can fit either pinlock or a FogCity.

They don't have a sun visor.

About £300 for a TourX 3.

If it fits, buy it. If it doesn't, dont. Simple. :thumb
 
If you like the Tour X and get on with it in practice, you'll like it - IYSWIM...?

I've got an original Tour X Motard and a Shoei Hornet.

I wouldn't put my head inside a Caberg Justissimo. They feel incredibly flimsy.
 
ive got a tx 3 and love it
im 6ft and have no trouble with wind blast, even doing lifsavers, but do have the mra vario screen fitted on my 07 1200gs

come with pinlock which works for me, can even get different coloured ones if need be

doesnt come with built in sun visor but the peak works a treat

is pretty quite, cant comment on how much quiter that the caberg but is quiter that my arai chaser

imo it gives a better filed of view that normal helmets due to wider visor apature

i love my tx3 and will stick with it till it dies, cost me about £320 but its the motard version which is a little bit more than the normal coloured ones

try it, it may fit, if it doesnt, dont bother, you could always try the shoei hornet, pretty much the same thing just styled differently

I find it very noisey and it does mist pretty quick so wouldn't have it as my only helmet.
Great in the summer as it's got great airflow and really good in traffic as the visor opening is so wide you get a great panoramic view.

No problem fitting the Starcom so I'd guess the Autocom would be similar.

I'm 6'2 and don't have any problems with it on the 12ADV but strangly got very bad vibration in the visor on a regular 1200 on one trip. Simple solution was some stick on wheel balancing weights.

I'm currently wearing an Arai Profile road helmet, am getting more into riding dirt roads, and wondering if I should get a motocross helmet:

Kind of a silly question maybe, but: what is the point of them? It's mostly so that you have more ventilation around your face and head if you're working hard?
 
Shoei Hornet for me and I'm 6'1 with a GSA and have no problems with the peak

The Autocom speakers were a pig to fit and I had to strip them right down to get them small enough to go in but now they're fine.

Try them both on and go with whichever feels the best on your head. If you buy and find the peak too much of an issue you can just remove it and wear the helmet without.
 
Have you actually tried one on? If not you should do so. In my opinion Arais are great, I've worn one for years road and offroad style. I currently have a TourX2 got the GSA (no issues with anything) and a VX3 for offroading - tried to look for something cheaper, but they just didnt feel right.

The main difference between Arais and others as I understand it is the shell shape; I get on really well with Arai Helmets, I find they fit my head really well, but I know a number of people that can't stand then and go for Shoei. It seems to be a question of head shape

You get what you pay for in nearly all things, you're caberg Justissimo is likely to be way noiser than an Arai or a Shoei.

If you don't want to spend too much money have a look for a company called Gearchange, they still have/had a stock of Tour X2 and you'll pay about £230-240 for one.
 
had my tour x motard for 2 years,

it is noisy, the lid does rip your head off in the high winds. took mine off over a year ago and its been much better since then.

The allround vision on these style helmets make it the best choice for me.

Mine mists up but only on very very cold days.

Autocom speakers fitted in a doddle with no problems at all.

never tried a shoei but i will next time as mine saw a bit of action in 2008 :rolleyes:

As with all helmets the best one is the one that fits your head properly. Is it for looks or practicaity? If the wind noise issue is a major factor then just buy a standard style lid plus Shoei's come with pinlock, no misting.

As said earlier the peripheral vision is excellent, I'd also say it's not an ideal cold weather helmet as it can be a bit drafty. HTH.
 
I've had a Tour X 2 for years and just changed it for the Tour X 3

IMO the Tour X 3 is so much better.

The padding fits better, the chin bar is closer to the face and also has a pull down chin guard thingy which helps.

The wind noise is also better this i've been told is due the peak being re-designed to allow better air flow.
The new peak is also better as you don't get your head ripped of if you look behind you at speed.

It also has a pinlock which is great for fogging.

And it looks great as well.

I'm looking a bit at Fox V-3 offroad helmets too, which are a bit over half the price of the Arai, and have a laminate shell. I ride a fair bit on the freeway and highway to get to interesting roads though, and I'm wondering if the visor on the Arai will be much better with wind and rain.
 
hi i have a shark evoline flip front, built in sun visor, good fit reasonabley quite,and cost about 220£ nice colours too.the good thing about the flip front is it locks in at the back of the helmet and doesnt stick up in the air like most others i have my intercom on and upto about 90ish mph its clear hope this is of use cheers.
 
I have an Arai Tour X in Black and the Shoei equivalent in White, both lovely helmets, although the Shoei feels nicer to wear, no problems with either helmet at high speed or windy days.....(the Arai can be a little noisy so is definitely an 'ear plugs' helmet)
 
I've 2 friends with the Tour-X, and they both rate them highly. I use a Lazer off-road lid, mostly due to the high temperatures and needing a big opening to help keep me cool....no need for a visor as I wear sunglasses.

The only point I can comment on is if having a peak is a problem in the wind. It is, but only when traveling at high speed and if there are strong cross-winds. Other than that you'll get used to any small differences.
