In preparation for an upcoming trip, I'm updating Sat Nav's, specifically 2 Montana 700i's. I did mine last week and updated CN to the latest 2026.20 and the Topo maps to 2025.1. No problems encountered. I'm using a Mac, btw.

Today, I updated Mrs Berin's Montana 700i, and before the update downloaded a new version of Express. I then did the update, went to manage maps in Express - and there's no CN maps showing. In the map manager page, I clicked change map region, and then install CN Europe, and got a not enough space error.

Since I'd just done the update on mine, I knew there was enough space, and looking on the device I found that the old CN 2023 maps were still there. Since it worked fine when I updated mine I suspect a bug in Express.

I spent a fruitless hour on the phone with Garmin, before resolving it myself thusly:

1) using Javawa device manager, check what's on the device - sure enough, CN 2023 maps are present.
2) Again using Javawa, delete the unwanted CN maps
3) Delete a whole load of unrequired language files, odds and sods of tracks and routes
4) Plus back into Garmin Express (this time in Windows running on the Mac) and update the maps, which currently appears to be working.

Moral of the story - never update a Garmin device within 2 weeks of a trip!
