possible source of DIY panniers??

I built a set of panniers from zarges boxes using the original pannier rails.
They were permanently fixed but can be uninstalled in 10 minutes with the lug wrench in the toolbox.
40 liters each was sufficient, they were waterproof and also tough enough to withstand some minor falls.
However some minor modifications were necessary like strengthening the boxes with inner brackets and clips to hold handles (they rattle very bad on the road).
Just for the looks and ease of use now I'm using HB junior panniers instead.

along the same sorf lines i was thinking but i thought about using the top loading boxes instead of side opening......

i had a look at some H&B top boxes and they look exactly like the zarges boxes but with different latches......
 
Ammo boxes

Friend of mine used ex-military ammo boxes on his guzzi. I made up the rails for the bike ! Top loading, V tough and waterproof and cheap but not so pretty !? paint to match bike ? get them from a good army surplus.:thumb2
