Post your thoughts on the SS Clique

it's funny - the only people you constantly see refer to there being a "clique", in the SS or any other part of the forum are those that haven't met anyone or been to an event.

Some people turn up at events and expect to be entertained without putting anything into it themselves.

Personally i don't post in the SS because i dinna understand a word that's posted.

Have your say here and lets get this out into the open, clear the air and get down to what makes this the best section on ukgser and improve on it.

Good sensible post Johnny  :thumb

Nothing wrong with a 'clique' as per the wilkopedia description,

but I feel you should have posted this in the pub, as it could be misinterpreted as being aimed at a particular group of members.

I feel that when the word 'clique' is used in modern society to describe a group of people its is often meaning they are not interested in other people's views, be helpful or welcoming to others, and just want to be their own private group, not as in the more general Wilkapedia definition Den provided. I do not and have never thought of any part of the SS section being a Clique. They have all been welcoming, helpful and reasonably open to other people's views  Not sure what started the vastly increased use of "Scottish slang" in posts in the last year, but equally that dosn't make folk members of a clique either.

Post/link this in the "Pub" section by all means but I think it is important that it is in the SS section as many people don't have all the time in the day to view all sections (I tend to just view SS, Technical and Photography).

I would hope that this spat is also behind me and Skyenet although I haven't actually seen him. We would have teamed up tomorrow at the kids run in Edinburgh but I have had to pull oot. I'm certain that there would have been no anomisity if we had met tomorrow.

I would hope that people would genuinely be honest here and if there any problem we can get it sorted out toot sweet.

Ronno

Absolutely no animosity and the spat only developed from a genuine desire to see the SS section seen as a welcoming section. Its in the past :rob Sorry you will not be able to make it along tomorrow. I regret that I have not been able to make it along to SS events this year but it had nothing to do with any individuals on the forum. (Well except Johnny who was going to do me in if I turned up on Skye :handbag :( :D :D :D )

The Mod is there to moderate the posts and not to coordinate ride outs, weekends, trips etc....

There is no clique just a bunch of good friends:thumb

I am pleased Johnny put up this thread and would hope that if anybody has views that they have not aired but would like to share that they take this opportunity to clear the air. If there are any views aired then these should not be shouted down as we are all entitled to our views. If they can improve the already good SS section then it can only be a good thing. I seem to remember more people posting when I joined in back in 2006. Maybe some members don't feel like posting much if they have had hassle in any threads, I know I felt like that a bit but gradually resuming to normal transmissions :thumb

I tell you what's a clique .. those AIRHEAD owners with their smarty pants sense of superiority over the rest of us.

Airhead only event? Whatever next ... Flatbed carried GS only event :blast

Good luck to the SS Jockland and all who sail in her.

I guess it's only the Jocks that think it's cliquey? The rest of us know it is and rightly so....We ain't Scottish and cannot understand but half the pish and borrox you all spout on about. We ain't offended.

And anyway, where else have we got to launch some of our very English rocks and arrows at?

:beerjug:

PS It's a shame there isn't a French section...You could be all cliquey together.

Who actually mentioned anything about a clique in the first place?
Think you'll find as someone else has said that it's probarbly someone that does not participate in the events or rideouts.
Fuk-em that's what i say.Shite ah was tryin no to swerr therr tae.
If your gonny sit on yer arse in yer hoose an no take part, whit do you actually expect? everyone to be yer best pal the first time they meet you?

From UKGS'erpedia,

A clique (IPA:/'klɪk/ in America, /'kliːk/ elsewhere) is the label usually given in complaint to individuals known to each other who use our forum to continue a level of personal friendship or knowledge gained usually through personal meeting. The tag is most commonly used by those who haven't got that personal knowledge cos they never make the effort to get out meet up and get to know them

The solution to overcome this 'problem' is generously provided for here, and more often than not organised by the very same accused cliquey members :thumb

Don't talk to me about the f*cking Nazi's and the SS after the way they treated my grandad :spitfire

Over looked him for promotion year after year :D

What was his name ?, I might have known him - seem to remember a Georg Ritter Von Tripp.
Think he was a chimney sweep at Belsen who did a bit of singing at Nonnberg Abbey

I don't think the group dynamics of the SS are any different to any group/club/team I have been involved in. There are people in the SS I know very well, some I have met a few times, others I have yet to meet and a few I will probably never meet. Of course I have a better rapport with those I know well. That’s only natural isn’t it. When we have runs and events the "regulars" always make an effort to speak to "newbies" and include them as much as possible.

Becoming part of SS does take a little time. No one should expect to join the site today and be am established "tosser" by tomorrow, it does not work like that. I think you also need the right attitude to be in the SS. Look at the good natured slagging that goes on. You need to be able to give it and take it. If you're too sensitive then the SS and indeed UKGSer may not be the place for you.

We are an equal opportunities section you're welcome here regardless of race, colour, creed, size, sexual orientation and disability. Just don't expect it to go unmentioned.

Anyone can post in the SS, anyone can suggest a run or event, anyone can attend a run or event.

Stumpy

I agree with Andy's comments above.
Never experienced a clique mentality amongst GSer's. At one point, however, I did think that it was being taken over by a whole bunch of guys called Andy - but thankfully my mind was at peace over that matter.
For those who think that there is a clique and that they are not part of it, my comment generally is why don't you try harder to become part of it, if you percieve there to be one.;)
The other thing is, if you really think that there is a clique here, then recognise that there are other communities out there that are supportive of GS riders, and go and try them.

BTW Johnny, good question.:beerjug:

Cheers fur postin this jist as I'm gettin ready tae go oot on the lash!! I'll hae plenty tae say but no until the morn.:thumb

Aw naw He's on the pish watching his beloved Man U get skelped on the Arsenal:blast

A regional section of a GS web forum.

Of course it's a 'clique' - a small number of like minded people.

Is this a bad thing?

IMO - not in the case of the SS. I've not posted there much (as it's mainly not relevant to me) but never felt that I couldn't or shouldn't and have not had my posts ignored or dismissed - quite the contrary.

Some of the 'craic' that people have mentioned was lost from this site (thread by mandylicious IIRC) is still strong in the SS and I personally applaud it. :clap (even if I can't understand it half the time - fekkin bampots :D )

My experiences with Ronno as a mod were limited but always fair and well conducted.

Johnny - I widnae fret, nayone will mind all this pish in a week or twa :augie

(with apologies to any Scots fir ma pityful attempt at yir language - it must read like one of Sani's posts.)

I don't know why but this threads got up my goat a wee bit, it's almost like we're having to justify to others that we in the SS are a welcoming bunch of folk and explain why :thedummy

for whats it's worth I've only been to one ride out (due to various reasons they always seem to be organised on a day I'm already doing something:thedummy) orgaised by the SS and was made to feel welcome, met up with some faces from the SS had a bit of a laugh, but as with any group of people there will always be a group that know each other better than the rest so they will gravitate towards each other, not really an issue it happens in all walks of life. it's called being human and enjoying the company of like minded individuals.

It's only a clique if you try to join in said conversational group and get the cold shoulder, never happened at the wee ride out I attended don't see it happening any other one either.
