Post your thoughts on the SS Clique

PS It's a shame there isn't a French section...

Maybe I should start one but we wouldn't wear skirts and play the 'Form a circle' game like the SS! :D

Seriously, the SS always seem to invite all and sundry to their events, no sign of a clique there.

Nothing wrong with a 'clique' as per the wilkopedia description, but I feel you should have posted this in the pub, as it could be misinterpreted as being aimed at a particular group of members.
This is maybe why folk think 'cliquey' when we speak about things which do not have a specific regional content, in the SS section only.

Ive just re-read that to myself. I think some sensible person stole my brain for a minute then sneaked it back in again when I wasnt lookin.

Den (or whoever is posting in his place :D) has nailed it.

I can't see that it's got anything to do with events and the people who organise and attend them. It's natural that people who have met and know each other will gravitate to each other's company. That's true of any event no matter where it takes place.

It's also true that the event aftermath reports will make references to some but not all individuals too.

Perhaps the impression is that some individuals use the Scottish Section as another virtual pub as opposed to the main one is what leads to this idea of a "clique?"

I may be wrong but I thought that the regional sections existed to make information about local ride-outs and meetings easy to find.

:nenau

i can understand how some might see a cleek in the ss, but i've been to quite a few rideouts/weekends in the last 3 years, mostly organised by the same few guy's and have never been made to feel unwelcome, the opposite in fact.
I suppose it's the same with any large groups of people, some folk get on together better than others and the people there the longest know each other better. Cleeky bastards :D

Clique? Not in my view :nenau

Rode up to the GOTC this year, first event attended in scottishland, on an RT no less, an engleesh man from deepest Hertfordshite. Everyone very friendly, good laugh, nae probs (d'yer see what I did there?), would defo go again.

The key to getting the most from UKGSer is to GO TO THE EVENTS.

Dear SS, keep on doing what you do - I'll have a bunkhouse place if there's one going. :thumb2

Mike I think you're right. That’s exactly how I see the SS. If UKGSer is a virtual pub then the SS is the table where most of my pals sit.

I think as the site got bigger over the years lots of the forum sections have become "mini pubs ". The Irish section and the Airhead section are two other examples. On some sites the Mods would have moved posts and policed the boundaries more strictly but on UKGSer the Moderation has generally been much lighter.

If your gonny sit on yer arse in yer hoose an no take part, whit do you actually expect? everyone to be yer best pal the first time they meet you?
:nenau

Actually I found this to be the case when I started going to UKGSer events.
I've never been very good at meeting new people but I can honestly say that that has never been a problem with a UKGSer meet.
UKGSers - the most welcoming and inclusive bunch of tossers you could ever wish to meet. If you've never been to a do and are put off by not knowing anyone, don't even consider it an issue. You will be made welcome.
Ah'm gonnae start greetin' in a minute!

There has been mention of cliqueism on this site ever since I can remember - not just aimed at the SS but of UKGSers as a whole. I suspect it may be people being a bit shy and looking for someone to blame.
If anyone has felt unwelcome please speak up, I'm sure we can make a special effort to include you next time.

As for Scotland meets, cliqueism is probably an excuse as it's a bit far to go.
Mind you, there is a perception that the Scottish hate the English generally so perhaps this puts people off? :nenau

I haven't been to Scotland since 1988 so I haven't met many of the Scots Tossers in person but I can't think of any I wouldn't happily take a drink with.
Except Garfield of course. :P

Having attended a couple of runs up in this part of the patch this year and met several of the regular posters on the SS, I don't believe it to be cliquey! at all.

In fact, a grumpy git wot I normally ride with commented on how friendly everyone was when we popped into the Fire Station cafe in Tomintoul this summer with Andy Cam. If the Grumpy Old Git says you lot are friendly, then you defo can't be cliquey.

Just my ramblings.
