just thought i would stick in my tupenny worth Iv only done a few posts but have been riding bikes fr yearss i bought a gs 1200 last year and intirestingly it seems to me that of all the biker types i have come across over the years gs people seem generally more connected (must be to do with the quirky bike) could be construed as cliquie everywan ave yarned wi s been very freenly n welcoming to the strange tribe that are gs riders
ps picked up ma new gas today fannnnntastic run home even in the pishin rain n wun:oonyack

Good sensible post Johnny :rolleyes: Not sure what started the vastly increased use of "Scottish slang" in posts in the last year, but equally that dosn't make folk members of a clique either.

.Do people get annoyed at the scottish sections use of slang? Might be better to stop it?

My first meeting with members was at the WIGWAMS . Never took a bottle with me and felt terrible as i was offered a drink immediately and made to feel welcome. I've helped out with things a little after that meet and was thanked by a few members. I am definately not in the clique. Clique yes a group of close friends who are the first to welcome, offer help or advice to fellow bikers. I think it would be better if all sections were to form a 'CLIQUE'
To me the site needs a few dedicated clique'e members to get things going.

Of course there's a clique....by the definition above, and why not?!

The most imoprtant thing is how it acts/reacts/welcomes people.......and as expressed several times above, it's certainly not an exclusive and inward looking group who don't welcome 'outsiders' immediately, so what does it matter?

I've not been to any SS events and rarely meet anyone from up there (I'm amazed I've managed to avoid Ronno so far and long may that continue ;) ) which is a shame, but I have no doubt that if I did manage to turn up to an event up there, even not knowing many at all on a personal level, I'd have no problems and would be <strike>tarred and feathered, abused and thrown out</strike> welcomed and have a craic with all the 'names' in the clique without a problem.

As pointed out by Neil and others, it's a certain type of UKGSer who has a problem with what they perceive as a clique, whether that be a Scottish one , a Mod one or any other group, and they often only have themselves to blame :)

Obviously not before donating a fair dollop of ginger sperm into a young wench to carry on the line.

picky picky picky :D, what really happened was i cheered after a try, Tracy asked who scored, i replied "us", did i not mention i was half south african :green gri.

p.s. have BMW, will break down.

I didn't know you had some South African in you. :augie

As so many others have said above if you turn up for the meetings/events you will feel welcome and will almost certainly have a great time. Your head may not agree on the mornings if it's a "weekend event". Quite funny watching the party animals that can't make the ride out:D There again Voyager always seems to enjoy himself and is an alcohol free zone so drunkeness although unconsciously encouraged (yes, pun intended) is not essential.

For what it's worth (cue slagging, you need to appreciate that a comment like that is usually irresistable to the Scots psyche) in my opinion the only things that could result in an accusation of clique are the SS as a regional pub scenario and the use of colloquial written language that many won't, (and have posted to that effect), understand. But to be honest if you just think "clique" at that point you are quitting. If however you play detective you can work out most of it and if you ask for a translation some kind soul will normally take pity and provide one which may or may not be the truth.

I have my roots in greater London but have lived in the Glasgow area since 1985, longer than I have lived anywhere else and don't plan on going anywhere else unless it's to retire to perma-sun. The Scots are a generous and friendly bunch for the most part, intensely nationalistic, patriotic and proud but great people. I can count on the fingers of one hand the negative comments I've personally received about being an Englishman in Scotland.

So to conclude this rambling post, it's only a clique in the minds of those who think it is.

Now ahhm awa tae huv ma brekkie

I appreciate that the SS is now also a virtual meeting place (a mini pub/bunker type venue if you like) for lots of folk to post shite in as well is for posting info about runs and ask serious questions about routes for touring Scotland and such like. This maybe isn't what some folk think the regional sections should be run like but IMO the Bollocks Pub in the main section of UKGSer is perhaps too big or busy for some guys to visit or want to post in and if we run the SS purely as a serious section, a lot of people would maybe stop coming on the site as frequently.

Keeping it within the boundaries of being solely for updating information about future runs etc would IMO quickly turn the SS into what the Scottish Region of the Club is like when there are as little as a couple of threads and posts in a month. Please don't read this as any kind of dig at the Club site.

I also realise that we have "morphed" into an SS Dialect when posting over the last couple of years but (again IMHO) this merely adds to the fun of posting and reading posts in our section and adds to the bonding and sense of Kamaraderie. I would hope that it doesn't alienate anyone from visiting and reading the shite that gets posted here.

I've noticed an increase in the amount of Non Scottish members who join in the banter and posts in the SS and that suggests to me that there isn't a perceived clique here (or at least an unwelcoming).

"Kamaraderie"?

Is that a bit of Glaswegian dialect I'm not familiar with? :D

Just in case you have not seen this little gem :D
