Sorry but couldn't resist the temptation to reply.

Its nice to see the Scots members producing a figure holding a wooden spoon, a position the Scots rugby team often find themselves in ;-)

Sorry but you cant post pictures like that and just get away with it ;-)

bit like the recent efforts of the English football teams:augie

Football is that a game of some kind?

Just done some checking on the internet, I am not allowed to watch football as I don't qualify.
Apparently you have to have a single figure IQ, and drive a Vauxhall, in addition I don't own a pair of union jack shorts, and I never drink larger !!

I was born In Hanover, then lived in Celle.

We get a lot of work equipment from Celle and I had visions of some industrial estate with some high rise flats scattered about.

But the photos I've seen of it make it look like somewhere nice to visit and if I'm ever close by I'll be going for a visit.

apparently it is a game of skill involving a round ball being kicked around on green field...:handbag

whereas apparently Rugby is played by big hairy men grappling each other to the ground and rolling in the mud with an odd shaped ball.....:ymca

i dunno :nenau as i can't be bothered with either much prefering to watch real men from a hedge racing each other on powerful machines between their legs on a real roads..

:D

I lived near Hanover at Verden-on-Aller from 1956 to '59 (my father was stationed at a British Army Base there, 7th Armoured Div. were resident there).

I used to fly from Hanover when returning to Boarding School. In those days BA flew 'Airspeed Ambassadors', later using the early 'Viscounts'.

I remember it as a nice City. Probably totally different now.

I believe the Army Camp at Verden (BFPO 32) is long gone now.

I know . . . :topic

Its not been gone that long it was the home of 1 ADSR (Armoured Division Signal Regiment)
I am sure its moved now, but I think it was still there up to a couple of years ago.

you have missed the point, its the opportunity to have a legal punch up (well it used to be when it was a proper game), chasing the ball was just the excuse.

Celle's dead dear and full of Danish tourists. And it'll be even dearer with the exchange rate collapsing.

The Bier Academie's top notch though. :beerjug:

Funnily enough it was a Dane who told me it was a nice place to visit.

'Bier Academie' ? I'll go and check it out if I make it there:beerjug:

There are a few biker pubs around Celle which are pretty good, :) and Celle's not a great distance from Bergen-Belsen should you need brought back down to earth. :(

+1

It was a very sobering place in the late '50s.

I wonder it its turned 'Touristy' now ? It was just open space and large graves when I was there.

Bob.
