No, it's just the same, but with a visitor/interpretation centre with cinema showing the clear-up afterwards.

A lot of visitors are German armed forces personnel who are bussed in during their national service period. They usually look very glum.

There are a few biker pubs around Celle which are pretty good, and Celle's not a great distance from Bergen-Belsen should you need brought back down to earth.

I used to go to 14 Signal Regt, that was based in Celle in fact the camp was built on the site of the rail head for trains taking people to Belsen concentration camp, I remember there were very strict rules when it came to building works, it could be a very eerie place sometimes.

The Royal Armoured Corps were there at one point and used the railhead for entraining tanks. Wee bit uncomfortable...

Odd too, that today in Bergen village in a local shop you can buy 'Bergen' patches for rucsacs or whatever, but in Belsen village just next door there's none. There is an Eiscafe though.

Time passes and the world moves on. My daughter in law is German and doesn't understand how all this could have happened. It wasn't her, she says, nor was it the present generation. But they can't be allowed to forget, nor should anyone else.

i agree no-one should forget...but what about Srbeniska, Rwanda, DR Congo, Palestine, Darfur.....there is a list of atrocities we should not forget nevermind the hellhole that is currently Iraq.....

Dont want to hijack the thread and you are right there are lots of atrocities all over the world, but you cannot lump all that lot together under one hat, they are not all the same.
I would agree that Srbeniska, and rwanda were acts of atrocities against one part of the population against another, and similar in Darfur, but none of them are the same as the elected government (all be it fixed elections) outlawing one entire segment of the population and systematicly shipping them off for disposal as so much waste, with the intention of exterminating the entire race of people, there is nothing even close it since, and nothing on the scale.

And regardless of your political persuasion the situation in Palestine and Iraq is nothing even remotely similar. Now you may not agree with what's being done, and you may or may not be right, I don't care to voice an opinion either way, but the fact remains that there is no legislation in place that allows for the state in either country to round up certain peoples and send them in trains to concentration camps where they are exterminated on an industrial scale. To claim such diminishes magnitude of what happened in Germany.

Clique what Clique?

Lippy Sue (not a BMW driver) and my self (BarrmillBiker) have been to both gathering of the clans and last years Xmas bash and though both of us don't get much of a chance to attend many eventswe been made to feel very welcome and very much a part of any thing that is going on.
We are both looking forward to meeting up with people that we would call friend at this years Xmasbash. We have always enjoyed meeting up with fellow riders on the road and know that when we can go further a field that we will be made just as welcome welcome.

We also appreciate the amount of effort that goes into organising these events and thank every one who puts so much of there own time into doing so.

looks like the 20th SS Grenadier division 'Estonia', probably August 1944, the kitten was called 'fluffy' and was later promoted to Hauptsturmfuhrer and awarded the Knights Cross with Oak leaves and catnip for it's gallant defence of Tallin.
