Posting photos, file size question.

I’m trying to post three or four photos on a thread and suddenly this time I’m getting a warning notice that ‘The uploaded file is too large’. I’m trying to upload the pics from my iPhone and usually manage to upload four without any bother but this time I get the warning message with the first photo. What am I doing wrong here?

It does this on android

Basically when you first try and upload the picture that is to large, despite it telling you its to big and you then resizing the picture on your phone, it keeps the original picture, somewhere (cached I think) on the website so despite you now trying to upload the new, resized pic, it keeps looking at the bigger previous pic.

I only noticed this after having the same issue, then not just resizing the photo I also cropped it, but everytime I went to upload the new, resized and cropped picture, it would still show the original picture and refused it.

On the website you can delete (as we see in your pics above) but on a phone that option isn't always available (unless you select the desktop view)

its quite annoying.

Thanks for that, what’s particularly annoying is that it’s never been a problem before unless I was trying to upload lots of pictures all at once, but now…

Actually I tried to write the post on my iPad because it’s bigger and easier more tolerant of “all thumbs” operation and airdropped the photos to it from my iPhone, and came up against the problem, and only then tried doing the obvious thing of doing it all on the iPhone, so it seems I’m having the same problem with both phone and pad.

What are the dimensions & file size of the problematic photos?
You should be able to see this information when viewing the photo in the Photos app on your iPhone, just click the “i” button at the bottom of the screen

Sorry I haven't replied, rude of me. From memory the file was something like 3.5MB, it was of a bare azalea bush - the one as shown in my first post above, but without the flowers. As you can see the one above is a mere 657KB which seems odd to me - why the difference I wonder? I have checked on the photos and that is correct, there are a total of about eight photos that I took at the time and the odd one is 3.5MB but all the rest are in the high to low KB range.

It’s OK, don’t worry about it.


I’ll have a look at the server settings later on when I’m home & see what the current limitations are.

The server is supposed to automatically resize any images that are too big, but I think there is an upper limit to what it will attempt to resize.

Could you possibly check the dimensions of the 3.5MB image? It’ll be something x something

Right, I've carried out some tests and made a couple of other changes, which should have fixed this issue for good now.


In your own time, please have another go at uploading the images you were having problems with and let me know how you get on

As requested. The MB’s are now very much reduced and no doubt more manageable.

This first one was the 3.5 MB one, now down to 555.9KB


The last three are between 70 & 90 KB
