My 1200 mile GSA 1250 is in for a service and I have just had a call that both wheels need replaced due to pothole damages - there are some truely massive ones around here!!!

Has anyone else had issues with pot holes on their offroad steed?:blagblah

If the damage is not too bad, get them repaired. Much cheaper than new ones.

Did you notice there was an issue/problem?

I would not feel confident agreeing to replace two wheels at BMW prices (yes I do know how much!) without having first hand evidence ie runout repeated and see the video or similar.
If your tyres did not loose any pressure then I would be doubly concerned.

The potholes did not seem exceptionally bad when I was in Ed - but iwas back in 19!

TBH apart from the fillings almost falling out and a scratch to the front alloy no. I have not seen the damage yet but the dealer is saying there is a hairline crack from the spoke on the rim.

Nothing new, I got a set of 1100 gearbox cases welded years ago for a guy in Romsey who hit a pothole that snapped the rear gearbox mounting lug clean in half…….. Makes you mad that we pay all that road tax.

I hit a pothole with the rear 2 months ago and ended up wrecking the tyre. Hole was so big the content of a can of tyre repair foam is still on the A82 and bike was recovered in back of a van. Not replaced the tyre yet so not sure if the wheel has damage. It was a mighty bang when I hit the hole so now getting worried if your spoke wheels are cracking what can happen to cast wheel.

Both wheels have hairline cracks? Do you remember this particular pothole?

That particular road is a joke, there are patches on patches on the patches and especially when wet and dark you just cant see the holes.

I hit one hole hard and scratched the rim but never noticed the crack when I get it back I will check the rim.

Sometimes councils see people sueing them and paying them out is cheaper than doing all the repairs

How much impact should a standard rim be able to take? These bikes are sold all over the world and some countries have far worse roads than we do. If big pot holes cause this much damage then surely there should be more instances of damaged rims out there. Spoked wheels are more forgiving but at the end of the day it’s an ‘adventure bike’ sold with cast wheels. They should be up to the job.
Maybe this is a manufacturing issue?

The last time that I visited the UK on a bike, about 18 months ago, I was amazed at the state of the roads all around the south. Not only are there holes to be avoided, some idiot had planted cats eyes everywhere. :nenau

…….. Makes you mad that we pay all that road tax.

Unfortunately, although we call it such, it has not been "Road Tax" for a great many years.
It is Vehicle Excise Duty.
If any of that goes towards road maintenance, it is only a small portion.

Get that hole photographed with something in it for scale, perhaps a tennis ball or something. You'll need it for a claim.

In the Borders the Scottish Borders Council have a pro forma to fill for wheel repair/replacement.......a friend of ours just had a new wheel and tyre replaced by them on her Skoda................

Good luck

BMW 19" car wheels ALL fail they are not fit for purpose - this has been in play for over 10 years - managed to get on watchdog once

how is this joke dealership saying you did it - get them to prove it was bumps that did it, rather than they make shit budget crap and fence it with marketing for 3 times its real value
