Poverty Spec Down Jacket

I’ve got a TOG 24 half zip down jacket that’s about as light as it gets and it’s too warm to be able to bridge a small temperature drop such as you’d find on a late summer evening. It’s ok when the outer jacket is off if you’re sitting eating outside but when actually riding I end up cooking if I have to slow down to ride through a town or similar.

SportPursuit are still selling Rab Kinder down jackets for £90 but I think they’d probably be much warmer than you need.

yes, I find a fleece adequate for touring in most conditions under my HG or Rukka Chariklo jacket. If it is really cold, under 5C, I add the Keis heated vest. Layers are better than something that is too efficient for 10-15C.

another fan of Mountain Warehouse - good balance between quality and value on their own branded stuff
Yep likewise, picked up lift week their own branded wicking T-Shirts, after a recommendation from fellow riders on our recent trip. Four of the T-shirts for £38. Bargain!
Riding in cotton T-shirts when it is hot, resulting in a bit sticky and sweaty experience, so these should help.

If you or one of your buddies fly into Jo'burg, visit the Cape Union Mart shop in the duty free. I picked up a brilliant down jacket - thin, well made, wraps up into a tiny size. The brand is K-Way and they're made in SA - I think it cost me about £40. Strongly recommended, I'll pick another when I get the chance.

I bought my lightweight down jacket from decathlon. About £55

Similar to this one. It fits nicely under my Stadler textile jacket, and incidentally, nicely offsets that expense.

I really couldn’t see the point of paying four times as much for something like the Rukka.

Looks good but won’t deliver to Guernsey.

TOG24 Mine must be now 4 years old, purchased from their Hatfield Outlet Store (sadly no longer there) for £60. You would've seen me wearing it on our tours. Lightweight, packs into its own zippable chest pocket, but most of all warm due to being down.
I prefer mine a little bit snug fitting rather than flapping about, having got a 40" chest when wearing a t-shirt. So have purchased a small size. Doe suit me well. Had originally purchased in medium but I found it to be to big. So medium on you will probably be perfect fit.

Currently on sale too at £49.00 (red only) and £79 for the other 4 colours. Less to you delivered to Guernsey naturally.

Medium would be far too small as I’m a 46” chest which would be XL, but they won’t deliver to Guernsey.

I’ve gone with this

Got VAT off then £10 delivery charge so £69.33.

Rohan is great kit.

Recently used some of their wicking undies on our trip and last week ordered some wicking t shirts in the sale.

So I know it’ll be good quality and that’s a great saving.

Thanks again for all the ideas.

Decathlon. Nothing else comes close for price/value/spec

I think its great! but not everyone agrees. Apparently too much cheap Chinese tat......
Quality to me is what you make it and what fits your needs......
Some would scoff at paying EURO 50 for an evening's scran in France....

Not that relevant to this thread and apologies in advance.
But, I think heated vests are amazing. I bought a Keis one 2 years ago at the NEC show for under £100. Don’t remember exactly how much though,
They’re less of a faff with the cuffs than a sleeved mid layer and keep you hell warm. Many of us underestimate the importance of the core temperature, but it inadvertently keeps your hands and feet warm too. When your core temperature drops, your brain diverts warm blood away from your extremities in an attempt to protect your core organs against cold. Thus when core warm, hands and feet are likely to be as well.

I just park the bike for the cold season, and don't have to buy heated clothing. Cheaper still, as I don't have to tax it for the duration of it hibernating, so another £60 odd saved there :D

I don’t ride in the winter either, but not because of the cold. It’s the fucking salt on the roads. Totally fucks all bikes eventually.
Does get pretty cold in the mountains in Scotland more than occasionally though. Vest packs small in tank bag and plugs right into GS accessory socket 👍
Each to their own.

I’ve got a brand new Adventure spec Baltic jacket in a Large that I’ve never worn (well maybe once), yours for £110 posted.

It’s got a detachable waterproof hood so you can wear it off the bike in the rain.

A quality bit of kit but I bought 2 for last winter and couldn’t send it back.

That one’s an absolute belter!!
I like Merlin stuff too 👍
Think Arsey might be trying to cancel his hoodie as we speak?! lol
He’s not going wear a fecking sail that is a XXL sized jacket. So no, he’s not canceling 😂

What’re you his secretary?? lol
Yeah, noticed they’re limited in size. I’m actually a 46 and Merlin XXL over shirt fits me fine. Think they only have 3XL left though 🤔

Nope . Looks too bulky even in a normal size. My Rohan is a bargain
