I know that there are a couple of places that do Powder Coating around Edinburgh, but does anyone have a recommendation - or a warning ??

Also, Robmack (on Skye) will be needing some work done as well so Northern Scottish ones are also of interest.

I know I could "Google" it, but personal experience is very useful.

Many thanks.

Bob.

Whenever I've wanted anything like that painted, I've got to see Lindsay at Henderson's Metal Cleaning - http://www.hendersonsmetalcleaning.co.uk/

He's always recommended two-pack epoxy rather than powder coating, although he does both. I know, however, that increasingly, he's having to go towards powder coating because of EC rules about solvent use.

In the past, I've had him paint several sets of alloy wheels for cars, most of a friend's VFR800 including frame, swing arm, fork stanchions, wheels, engine parts and I got him to paint the rocker covers on Mike O's Adventure at one point.

Lindsay's a really nice guy and is a bit of a star with a paint gun. He's also the brother-in-law of an ex-colleague and friend of mine. If I have a reservation it's that his prices seem to have gone up recently and he does appear to be very busy.

Henderson's get my vote too Bob. Always found the chap there to be very helpful and will give you a realistic price before the job is done. He seems to be pretty busy doing domestic radiators and the like so I'd build the time factor into any calculations.

I just got my pannier frames done by a boy in Forfar...good job...I'll get details later...or if Doyle pops past he knows who I mean...

I can't say I was impressed with the job Henderson's did on my rocker covers. They tried to palm me off with a poor job (I was disappointed they even considered work of that quality leaving their premises), then really took their time over getting them back to me - and they still weren't very good.

I couldn't recommend them, but they may have been having an off few days - and it was a while ago.

Mike

Newlife tyres near the wisp do powdercoating
I have had hundreds of items coated and this lot are the one I`m using just now.
PPE at loanhead are crap.
Hendersons doesn`t powdercoat (last time I asked)
There is a guy out near me called Mark (I have his number) who is shithot. But is very busy.

I would use Newlife tyres.

I got a pair of R1100 rocker covers painted by Hendersons at the beginning of the year - lovely result.

I've used hendersons for years after recommendation from Schtum.

Had 5 sets of car alloys , 8 bike wheels and sub frames etc painted, been happy with the results and price.

Thanks Guys - that's really useful.

Now to see if Robmack wants me to get bits done for his new project :augie.

I feel a trip to Skye coming on :bounce1.

That would be Ian Archer, works out of orchardbank industrial estate.Forfar.

I,ve seen some work he has done and it looked good.

By the way Gerard,he lives in glenisla at the freuchies,so not far from you ,save you a journey to forfar

I used Newlife to do a 1200 engine front-cover.

Did it for £25.00 and seemed like a good job. :thumb2

Word of advice though (with any paintshop/powdercoater) - give them written instructions with sketch or drawing to assist.

On small items - I think Newlife fit it in with other works and charge a nominal sum rather than quoting for a separate job?

Al :D

Thanks to Voyager for posting this up and for the replies, the jury is still out on finish coatings and I may well use 2 pack myself.
I definately want it sandblasted and etched though.
I picked up a 1931 Panther last night that has'nt been on the road since 1954.
Well according to the tax disc on it anyway.:D

Not in Edinburgh but out by Hadington is Mark 2. He is actually a friend of mine and his unit is just a few doors along from mine. I can supply his number if your interested. He does a great job and is really into bikes himself so knows the quality that is expected for bike parts. He also has a massive range of colours in stock including quite a cool chrome look finish.

Mark is also a freind of mine !lol Thats who I was on about in my post. He is mega busy with the horses at this time of year but his work is second to none.
Good lad Mark like,! my old Zephyr was the first time he had tried candy colours and it still looks ace, 13 yrs later.

Just thought id put up some pics so you can see the work I have had done by hendersons, heres a set of wheels that were painted in march 2006 by hendersons:

And on the bike 5 years later:

The bike behind also went gold wheels about a year later again by hendersons, and is used every winter since 2007, and the wheels have done well (even with me doing my own tyre changes with a few odd scrapes with the levers every so often).

In sept 2007:

And august 2011:
