Power Cable Routing

If you don't have the BMW GPS adapter you are far better off connecting it to the switched power in the front of the bike

I have a nav6 on the bike, but I also have a GPSMAP device which i find better for off road trails.

The interruption to the power when you start the bike causes the GPSMAP to power cycle and it takes 3-4 minutes before it's good to go, hence my want to power it directly from the battery :)

Powering anything directly to the battery is not a good idea. I know that has a power button but good chance you will forget to turn it off sometimes.

I'd get a HEX EZCan or use a relay at minimum

I appreciate the concern, but I'm good with the solution I've chosen.

Was just hoping to get a clue from someone who may have run a wire before before I start pulling it apart :)

I routed my fused power feed from the battery under the tank-top plastic panel and out at the headstock, Just loosen the screws and pop the narrow panel off and you will find plenty of clearance past the fuel filler cap. I have a live feed into my tank bag for charging. The bike power sockets are a PITA if you ask me

There is space between where the top panel meets the tank side top. You do not need to take anything apart. Just guide the wire gently through. Start from the battery side and feed through seems to be easier. If you can use a piece of flexible metal such as an aluminum coat hanger to guide the cable, that will work much easy.
