I've seen this question asked on another forum.

It doesn't seem right to me but perhaps there may be someone with more knowledge of these who may be able to answer?

Thanks.

I was looking at a Power Commander before Christmas, and the bloke I was asking (Edinburgh Heine Gericke) said that all Power Commanders are the same, just loaded with different maps depending on what bike you have. Is this true? If it is, surely I can buy the cheapest one on eBay (say, for a ZX6R) and stick a map for my bike on it...? Should save a lot of pennies too.

No, this isn't quite correct - from your profile, I will guess (sorry!) that you have a 2005 1200GS. If so (and I think it's the same up to the 2008 model), then see here for the PC III set-up guide http://www.powercommander.com/downloads/936/install/411/eng936-411.pdf - you plug into the right side injector, left side injector and stock TPS and then ground to the battery.

A Kwak zx-6R, say a 2005 model, plugs into EACH injector on EACH OF THE FOUR cylinders, then the TPS (but it's a different connector to the BMW one) and then requires grounding to the battery -'ve.

SOme bikes (eg a CBR 11000 XX) only require plugging directly into the stock wiring harness at a single point.

If you look at a PCIII, they all come with the different wiring connectors, etc HARD WIRED into the box - you can't unplug the wiring (well, not that I can tell:rolleyes:) from the box and swap between boxes. Yes, I suppose the boxes are identical but it's the HARD WIRING that makes them unique to different bike models. DOes anybody know better than I (apart from the bloody wife, that is  )!!

CHeers,

Only in as much as I know that some models of Power Commander will fit more than one make and model of bike. For example, before Dynojet released the PCIII for the R1200GS, it was a well kept secret that, apart from requiring a completely different map, the unit designed for the Ducati ST4S and Multistrada was a plug 'n' play fit on the R1200GS.

AHHHhhh Haaaa! I was thinking too literally! Forgot about older models! Makes you think, because I remember having a Power Commander (first generation) for my CB900 Hornet and it plugged straight into the loom without grounding, power connections, etc etc, unlike the newer types ...

Cheers! :thumb2
